Poem: You

I return and see you there
I hear loud music, I feel the commotion
My heart tenses, sweat forms on my forehead
Will I be safe? Will I be secure?
The music gets louder, voices grow stronger
I hear screaming and laughing
The smell singes my nostrils
I must announce my presence
There you are, solid, stable, and secure
I turn towards the music and smoke
Tears run down my face
I'm lonely and scared
I weep as I look in your direction
You show no emotion, yet I need you
I seek your stability, despite my obligations
I close my eyes and cling to you
I hear my name, my heart races
I seek to be part of you and disappear
Dreamlike voices call my name
I unwillingly let go of you
My legs gravitate towards the fog and commotion
I wipe the tears away
I pretend everything is fine
I float towards a quiet corner
I close my eyes, I hold my breath
I feel my heart pound in my temples, I faint
My eyes open, the music is still there
I close my eyes, I focus on the floor
I hear my name
I hold my breath
I awaken, the commotion is still there
I call your name
