Young women in the 21st century have lots of options. Choosing to go to college is one of them. There are literally thousands of colleges to pick from and finding the right one can be a challenge. The first consideration would be academics, of course. But there is more to college life than books and making the correct decision is important. Many women are opting for all women's colleges. There are many advantages to attending an all women's college. Research has shown that students express a greater satisfaction with the college experience. They tend to choose more frequently traditional male disciplines like science and mathematics. Students in all women's colleges develop higher levels of self-esteem than do their coed counterparts. They are twice as likely to pursue doctorate degrees and enter medical school. Without the domination of male role models and gender expectations, these students thrive and are happy.
