100 Funniest Movies (Part 13 ~ # 40-36)
81- 100 Funniest Movies (Part 1 ~ # 100-96)
Here's the beginning of the countdown in case you're anal.
# 40 ~ South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut
WARNING: Kyle's Mom's a Bitch is dirty! Now let's all sing along!"
Wall Street Journal - Once the movie started I could hardly believe my ears. I was stunned. I was shocked. I laughed myself silly to the end.
Time Magazine - Warning: You may laugh yourself sick - as sick as this ruthlessly funny movie is.
NY Times - The year's funniest comedy and the best movie musical in years.
Rolling Stone - Here's one summer blockbuster that doesn't misfire, sell out, go soft or come anywhere near politically correct. 'South Park' is a subversive, funny wake-up call.
South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut ~ 1999
I swear from the moment this movie starts, I begin laughing and you don't get a break for at least the first half-hour. The first thing we see is the Paramount Pictures logo with the classic mountaintop view which morphs into a paper cut out and we're on our way.....First we get the "quiet, redneck mountain town" song to introduce both the boys and the new movie Asses of Fire starring Canada's most notorious farters Terrance and Phillip. Then after getting a homeless guy to be their guardian, they sneak into the R-rated movie.
Once their movie starts with a delightful little romp called "Uncle Fucka", the boys' vocabulary grows rapidly. After they get out of the theater they go right to school to brag about seeing it and to show off their new favorite words. When Mr. Garrison hears them cursing in class he angrily says, "How would you like to go to the principle's office?" to which Cartman responds, "How would you like to suck my balls, Mr. Garrison?". Shit hits fan. Parents are called in and the kids are taught alternate swear words from Mr. Mackey in a hilarious song called, "It's Easy, MMMKay". These scenes alone are better than 60 movies on this list. And I ask you, how brilliant do you have to be? Trey Parker and Matt Stone took a cartoon movie with bad language in it, and made a movie about that subject and in the process silenced all objecters. After all, everyone knows, "Kyle's Mom's a Bitch!".
# 39 ~ Clueless
Dionne Drives On The Freeway!
The Plot: Jane Austen's Emma meets Beverly Hills 90210 in this West Coast teen lifestyle parody. Brittany Murphy made a name for herself as tomboy Tai and Alicia Silverstone got so big after this movie that she never overcame it's popularity. Amy Heckerling's vision was crystal clear and she executed it perfectly and the latter seldom follows the former when it comes to comedies. Sometimes scenes that are funny on paper but just don't work on a film set. Sometimes the actors aren't up to the task set forth by the director.
Clueless ~ 1995
Cher is a sophomore in HS who can get anything she wants and usually does. Even if it means setting up two lonely teachers in the process. Her superficial exterior soon gives way to a sensitive soul and a lonely heart. The crush on the step-brother (Paul Rudd) is somehow not creepy and her father (Dan Hedaya) is so lovable that you wanna hug him. Props to Donald Faison, Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer & Jeremy Sisto for keeping things moving and special Funktual love to Writer turned Actor Wallace Shawn as the 'way-harsh' Mr. Hall. We'll be seeing him again on this list.
# 38 ~ Mr. Mom
A Mother of a Comedy
John Hughes wrote this too. Only, instead of Chicago it is set in the Motor City of Detroit. Why? Because the lead character is a car maker. Or was. This a role-reversal, gender-bender 'appreciate your wife' comedy that still packs a punch. Michael Keaton IS ON FIRE and do not sell Teri Garr short here either. She is really great as the former mommy turned ad-exec sex symbol with the weirdo Martin Mull clawing after her. I'LL BET YOU FORGOT: that both Jeffrey Tambor & Christopher Lloyd were in Jack's car pool to work.
Mr. Mom ~ 1983
Jack Butler has lost his job and he bets his home-maker wife 100-to-1 odds that he can get a new job before she can get her first one in years. Next scene: she is getting ready for work and he is receiving instructions on what to do with poopie diapers. The following happens in just ONE SCENE: Jack has three objectives 1) Laundry 2) Vacuum and 3) Keep an eye on Alex (his oldest of three kids) who is cooking in the kitchen. While this is going on 3 more variables come into play, the tv-repair lady. the exterminator and the hot-water heater guy all show up. Jack's all in one solution has the washing machine exploding and he left the vacuum cleaner a/k/a JAWS unattended and now it's eating Kenny's 'woobie' blanket and the baby is eating chili. If you don't see any humor in this try these lines.
- "Dad, you're doing it wrong" followed by
- "South to drop off moron!"
- "220, 221 whatever it takes." on re-wiring the house.

# 37 ~ Swingers
Best Scene!
Swingers ~ 1996
This film is based on real events. (Jon Favreau) Mike is a wannabe actor who moved to L.A. but left his girlfriend back in N.Y. His friends are trying to get him out of this break-up funk and they decide that Vega$ is the best way to do it. His best friend Trent played pitch perfect by real-life pal Vince Vaughn. There isn't much to this movie except a whole bunch of people saying "You're money, baby" and briefly bringing back Swingin' bands like Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers and of course, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Heather Graham is adorable as his new love interest at the end too. Not a great movie by any means, but it is funny as hell nonetheless and it gave us Vince. What else do you want?
# 36 ~ Tootsie
The Trailer
Just so we're clear, THIS IS THE BEST FILM ON THE LIST! In terms of acting, originality and it has a script that simply can't be touched. First, the cast. Dustin Hoffman is brilliant in 2 roles. Jessica Lange and Teri Garr play his love interests with Geena Davis thrown in for "tits, uh..that's tips." Dabney Coleman is always a bastard so that's a given and then we have Charles Durning and George Gaynes as the men in love with the woman behind the man? Something like that. And uh, oh yeah, the genius Bill Murray plays his roommate/playwright Jeff. It is perfect BUT it isn't a joke-driven slapstick LMAO ROFL-type thing either. Some rate this film as the best comedy ever written. Uncredited writers on this project include Elaine May and Barry Levinson.
Tootsie ~ 1982
I usually write the plot here but between the poster and clip, you know all you need to know. Just don't be a putz and miss it. P.S.- Mrs. Doubtfire is a lame-ass rip-off in my opinion!

ha! Team America is funny but only at times and it is way too long. I think they blew it there because that would have made a great TV show.
Tootsie is funny eh? Will have to give it a look up.
Check it out. One of the best films EVER.
on a very unfunny note: we lost a legend, a hero, an idol on sunday. crazy, one day you write a hub on him, then he's gone a couple weeks later. RIP George. thanks for the laughs, you truly are the best who ever lived. he probably said the funniest thing you ever heard right before he died. or maybe he kept the last one for himself, he deserves it.
Thanks for that tribute Billy. I am truly mourning this great man.
Clueless is a classic for me! Great choices - anything Jon Favreau is witty and fun. :)
Ecstatic to see the high praise you gave Tootsie! Although, gotta admit, was hoping this one would have landed in your top 25. BUT, you're the master!
It was originally very high (like 12) but I had to re-evaluate it for pure laughter's sake and NOT for quality of the overall movie! It's one of my favorites and really of every ACTOR I know.
