There are many self-professed gurus of positive thinking out there today. From Norman Vincent Peale, to Brian Tracy, these gurus share their positive thinking lessons in a huge variety of books, videos, and seminars.

Let me share a secret with you: There is no big secret to positive thinking! Your frame of mind is determined solely by you. You have the choice to think positive, or to allow negative, pessimistic thoughts to control you.

With that said, there are some simple tips I can give you to help you out if you have trouble staying positive. But like I said, I can give you some pointers, but the rest is totally up to you. Start applying these four keys to positive thinking today and see if you notice any changes begin to happen.

The 4 Keys

Key #1: Use positive affirmations every day. One of the easiest and quickest ways to help yourself have a mindset shift is to use positive affirmations. Whether you use affirmations created by others, inspiring quotes, or your own affirmations, they can be extremely helpful in keeping your thought process upbeat. Write down several on index cards and carry them around with you every day. Reach for them to read and repeat throughout the day.

Key #2: Find something good in everything. Believe it or not, if you look hard enough, you will be able to find something good in everything. No matter how bad or troubling the situation, there is always something good that can come from it. The trick is making yourself look at the circumstance in a different light.

Key #3: Be a blessing to someone. One of the biggest reasons for some people’s negative thinking is that they are always focused on themselves. They rarely, if ever, stop to look around them. Instead, they’re always focused on their own problems and life. They’re never interested in what’s happening to others around them. If this describes you, ask yourself every morning when you wake up, “How can I bless someone else today?” Chances are, you’ll walk every step that day looking for an opportunity to help someone else.

Key #4: Forget about negative people. Whether you’ll admit it or not, hanging around negative people will cause you to begin to take on that negative way of thinking, too. So forget about negative people. Create as much distance between them and yourself as possible. In a very short amount of time, you’ll see a positive change in yourself.

Something I heard long ago and never forgot is that you become like those you hang around with, so hang around with positive people like many here at hub pages. Great Job!

You only become like those you hang around with if you let that happen, Stevemark.

I prefer the other view: you become what you think :)

Hope,

Great Hub.....being a great student of self does help to understand our reactions to negative thinking....it also helps to reshape that thinking inside and ultimately outside....Point #3 is essential yet grossly overlooked when first undertaking positive thinking. Thank you for the hub...you are a hub "guru"

Dear Hope Wilbanks, this a truly wonderful and very useful hub! I still remember reading Dr.Norman Vincent Peale and very many other writers, yet I so vividly remember Dr.Peale and his golden stories. Of course, it is entirely up to us, how do we want to think and feel..., yet this authors could help you in finding the right curse-direction, very much.
