4x6 Envelopes Should Be Easy To Find, Right? Wrong.

After my fiancee and I gathered up all of the addresses for all the people who we are inviting to our wedding and finally got our save the date invitations printed up delivered to us all we needed to do was find envelopes to send them out in. Our save the dates are 4x6 double-sided postcards, so there isn't any room in the design to put a stamp or addresses on them. So, what we figured we'd do is just go out to a local store like Wal-Mart, Target, Office Depot or the like and grab about 300 4x6 envelopes so that we could stamp and address each of them up before we send them out. That should be a fairly easy task, right? I mean, 4x6 is a very popular size for post cards and pictures, I was sure that we'd be able to find 4x6 envelopes at any of these stores that we would stop at. Wow, was I way off.

The Search For The Odd-Sized Envelopes Begins

Little did I know just how rare these odd, little 4x6 envelopes were. My fiancee and I stopped at her favorite store, Target, and the things were no where to be found. We looked in the card aisles and nothing. We looked in the stationary aisles and nothing. I was starting to worry if these things even existed at all quite honestly.

Then I thought of Staples, which is just like Office Depot (I think?), and I combed through their envelope aisle that literally had stacks and stacks of every type of envelope known to man. Big envelopes, small envelopes, yellow envelopes, brown envelopes, but did they have 4x6 envelopes? Of course not. None of these rarely shaped pieces of stationary seemed to find a home in Staples envelopes section, which even surprised the guy working there that was trying to help us out. We left in pure disappointment and only had one other place that we could look for the envelopes of our desire, the Internet. I guess that's where we should have started our search in the first place.

Amazon.com Saves The Day!

So after running all over the place like fools looking for gold, we finally decided that we were done wasting our time looking all over the place for the seemingly mysterious 4x6 envelopes that we were seeking and headed straight for Amazon.com to see what they had for us. Could they help us find what we were looking for? I mean, if Amazon.com doesn't have them, who does, right?

Thankfully Amazon.com did have the 4x6 envelopes in stock and not only did they have them, but they had all different types and varieties for us to choose from! But, at least we now had options and thanks to them we can now let everyone know when we're officially getting married (which is a good thing).

I *like* this! Who knew that 4X6 envelopes wouldn't be a stock item at office supply stores and stationery depts??  However... Being 4X6, the standard size of photos, I'm wondering if the elusive envelopes weren't tucked away in the Photo department???  Just a thought.  ;D

JamaGenee - Nope, I checked the photo departments, too - no go. If you need these, be sure to go online.

Gypsy Willow - We're getting married in August! It's getting close!

OMG, you have saved the day! This is such useful information and I thank you for posting. Using envelopes for postcards allows you to use the whole back side for information. We are planning a fundraiser and finding these envelopes is just what we need.

Hey Ethel -- so glad that I could help! Believe me, I know how hard it is to find these things.
