A Letter to New Hubpages Members
63Dear New Hubpages Member,
First off, let me be one of many to welcome you to Hubpages. Hubpages is a community, an article resource, a place to learn and share with friends and colleagues. Whatever the reason is for your recent arrival to the site, I'm sure you have wonderful things to share with the community at large.
There are a couple of things I would like to address to you, however. After writing on Hubpages and interacting here for over 18 months, I have learned quite a lot, have developed my own way of looking at the site, and have shared things I enjoy or know about with the world. You will too, but there's a focus to be made - all good things take TIME.
So, when you post your first hub, no matter what the topic, know that it takes TIME to get traffic (aka users visiting your pages.) It takes TIME to make money, it takes TIME to see your Hubscore rise, it takes TIME to reap the rewards of your labor. It also takes TIME to learn just the right combination of capsules, how they should be organized, and how they fit best together.
Patience isn't just a virtue, new Hubber...
Patience is a virtue, yes, but it is also a requirement to succeed here on Hubpages. You have to be patient, let TIME do it's work, tweak and edit, improve your content, write more, participate more, and when you've promoted your Hubs, proofread and revised them to take any errors out, formatted them in a way that is pleasing to the eye and captures the attention of your readers, then you will begin to see results.
"But I posted this Hubpage a week ago, and it hasn't made any money!"
That's perfectly OK! That hub may make you a lot of money down the road, depending on traffic, the quality of the article, ad placement (which is assisted by good capsule placement) and sheer dumb luck. Then again, it may never make you any money, but the practice, the lessons you will learn from perfecting that Hub will carry on into your next one, which could be your moneymaker!
"I read that some people on this site make thousands of dollars a month. Why am I only making enough to buy a soda?"
Choice of topics, writing style, use of capsules, overall buzz and hype, masterful promotion and traffic all are learned skills. If you've never written an article on Hubpages and made full use of the tools in front of you, then you won't know your own potential. Keep in mind, also, that a lot of the Hubbers who make money hand over fist are one of a few things:
- Excellent writers
- Brilliant marketers
- or BOTH!

Hubpages is more than a piggy bank.
My prospective new friend, the biggest thing I want you to know is that while you CAN make money on Hubpages sharing your unique content with the world, it's not a piggy bank. It's not a way to be able to quit your job by calling in rich, or a place to store all your keyword stuffed spun PLR articles. It is a community of people pouring their brains, hearts and sometimes tears into sharing everything they can with the world, with you and with me. You will find articles about all kinds of topics, from super serious political analysis to cheeky plays on words.
Hubpages grows every day because of new Hubbers like you. Will you grow with us?
Love,
Gamergirl

Well said GamerGirl! Hopefully newbies will find, read and learn from your hub.
greetings to you

Thanks Gamergirl, The past 4 weeks have been a bit overwhelming as the world of hubpages possibilities have opened up. But each day things are becoming clearer and I'm figuring out how hubpages can fit into an overall online marketing strategy. And to my huge surprise, I'm finding that it's a fun creative outlet for ideas. I actually posted a hub about a book I had just read. Because I thought why not -let's share and see if others have read it.I lam really looking forward to becoming a more knowledgeable and productive member of this community.
LOve it -- well said, Charlotte -- this should be used as the default response to new Hubbers who have already become frustrated with not making millions in their first week of writing.
*blushes* Thanks for your comments, guys.
Ryan, that's a heck of an idea! Feel free to use it in handling the disgruntled emails you guys get. LOL
Fabu daughter mine... Thanks for your support.
I have been here about a week and feel more comfortable. a new hub page can be intimidating. But approach a blank page with zest and saveit read it later edit tweek twiddle and it grows.
GRIN!
Down the road is so right. I wrote a hub this time last year that got a little traffic. Then it sat for about 9 months. The past two months it started picking up. I am seeing views about 75 per day steady and think it will continue for another month or so. It is a seasonal hub but it is doing great. TIME is a big key here. Good write, thumbs up to you.
*twothumbsup* I wish I had more thumbs! Great hub, gamergirl. I think even some of the better hubbers are still learning new ways to tweak and improve both their earnings and hubs. I've learned more just by attempting to create GOOD articles and simply write well than with any 'tricks' and 'tactics' I've seen in the forums or elsewhere. My earnings aren't quiet what I'd like them to be but are definitely moving in the direction of UP, so long as I keep learning and making improvements
Thanks mythbuster! I know I'm learning more, and I've been here for two years (well, in October.) It's a lifelong process, that learning thing!
Great read. My first priority was writing well from the get-go, so I am lucky not to suffer from "why am I not a millionaire yet?" syndrome.
I appreciate your candid approach here and am very glad I found you n your hubs!
I love it here, so any money I eventually make would be icing on the cake!
PS- saw something about your nuptials in the forums..is this so? If so, congrats to you & your lucky betrothed!
great advice!!
Thanks gg! I have been hubbing for a month but your hub makes me feel the warmest welcome.
Great gamegirl!
It is hard to know where to begin, so am glad I got to your hub as one of the first...
Thank you for your information. I am new to the hubpages community and have enjoyed the getting started process, just sort of figuring it out as I go. I find your insight very encouraging!
I am new here. And kind of stuck as don't know much about hubpages...
I am new on here and your hub has some really great information. Thanks.
Robert Elias Ballard
thanks for this. as a new hubber this has some great tips
Totally awesome - it is easy to get discouraged oh so fast today in our "now" society! My only problem is figuring out how the heck to do stuff to get all the affiliate info in order but think it will all sink in one of these days! Good advice though and as usual, tincture of time is the answer!
A great hub about making great hubs. I like it! Thank you for your encouragement. You hit it right on.

That was really neat GG. It was perfectly written - simple, easy to understand and nonoverpowering. This should help alot of newbies in putting everything in perspective. Great hub :D
