A SMOKED TURKEY THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO "SMACK YO MAMA"
81Smoked turkey
This is a recipe for a smoked turkey that will make you want to "smack yo mama," but don't try it she might smack back, LOL! Sorry, I'm not being irreverent, that's just an old southern saying, when something is really, really good.
If you don't have a smoker or have access to one, go buy one, NOW, because I guarantee you will want to, after you hear this. I've actually had people who say they don't like turkey,(because it's too dry), become instant turkey lovers. Once I threw a big shindig, and forget to bring out the turkey, because I always cook so much for those things. Anyway, after everyone was completely stuffed, dessert and all, I brought out the turkey and just offered a taste, needless to say the turkey was devoured in less than an hour.
I actually have to make this for my friends, of course they supply the ingredients, and I'm happy to oblige. To be sure it is a process!
The recipe
There are numerous steps to this recipe, but if you follow them, I promise you will be a hit in your community. I've even toyed with selling them...........nah, too lazy now. Anyway here goes.
Turkey, (the size doesn't matter, but you'd better buy a big one)
Worcestershire sauce
Soy sauce
Teriyaki sauce
Hot sauce
That's it for the ingredients. Mix worchestershire sauce, soy sauce, and teriyaki sauce together. I have no measurements, but use enough to partially cover the turkey. As for the hot sauce, limit that, it's just for spice, maybe, 1/8 cup.
Thaw the turkey, (don't try this with a frozen turkey), got to spell it out for some (I'm just saying). Pour mixture over turkey, marinate overnight in the refrigerator, periodically turning and basting it. Remove turkey from mixture, saving the mixture. Smoke the turkey on top rack, depending on size, about three to four hours, (FYI: if you smoke a turkey, without all the steps that I outline, it takes between 8 & 12 hours, on the smoker alone), making sure the turkey is golden brown.
Remove turkey from smoker, and wrap in lots of heavy duty foil, pour about two cups of the mixture over the turkey, and return to smoker for another hour, turning it at least once.
Now here's the part that will make it unforgettable.Remove the turkey from the smoker, open the foil and add more mixture, re-wrap, and finish it in the oven, (about 350 degrees), while it is cooking, flip the foil wrapped turkey at least once. Depending on the size again, cook it for another two to three hours, or until it almost fall away from the bones. You will have a turkey that will..............well, as I said, make you want to "smack yo mama."
I want to hear success stories, not the smacking your mother part, LOL, but the being a hit part.
Oh, let me add this, if you don't know how to use a smoker, ask someone or after you buy it follow the instructions, if it has any. Or if you want, just contact me and I'll tell you how.

Thanks creativeone, I know you will love it.
I don't own a smoker, could I just use the oven or would it not taste the same?
Hi Veronica, I don't know how it would be, I've never tried it, but give it a try. Actually the smokey taste is what I'm partial to. But you know there is something called liquid smoke, maybe that would work. If you do try it, let me know how it works.
Good hub.
Thanks fastfreta. I think I just might try it. Our local store has turkeys on sale right now. I just bookmarked this.
Thank you both. Veronica I will look forward to hearing about your experience.
I hate to say this but I never liked turkey but this sound like a real good one. Thank you.
Fastfreta- This is spot on! Nothing can top some good smoked Turkey on a cool day..
This does sound really delicious. I love the fall-off-the bone part, nice and tender and spicy. I bet this would work for whole chickens too. Thanks for this great idea.
Fastfreta, Thank You! This sounds tasty. Smokers really are wonderful! I will try this. I will take you at your word. But I would have never "Smacked my Mama." LOL So I am sure it will be good.
Blessings!
Thanks all for stopping by. And DeBorrah, I've never smacked my mama either, that's why I'm here to talk about it, LOL. However that's one of our favorites sayings. When describing something that she cooked, she'd tell me it was so good that I'd want to smack her.
PegCole, I think that it would work for any whole piece of meat, including chicken, let me know, if you do decide to use chicken, how it comes out.
Hmrjmr1, I see someone has had the experience,
So, Hello, hello, why don't you give it a try, and even if you still don't like it, you will be an instant hit with friends and family.
