A Beagle's Journey - Our Wonderful Pet
Molly, our beagle
We love Molly, and she has quite the story to tell. There is one part I cannot help her to share, as we first met her in a shelter, someone had given her up for adoption. We were so lucky to find her, and I loved her instantly, and we adopted her. I wonder what happened to her before she came to us though.
We were in a position to get a new dog, and what better place than from an animal shelter where they need homes? This was when we lived in Texas, and there were so many dogs there. She was put in a cage with many other dogs and they all wanted my attention, and she seemed overwhelmed, sad, and in the back. When I walked by the cage, her eyes held mine, and she looked so sad. Now I know that look well, and its usually when she is trying to "work" me, hehe.
I didn't have any intention of bringing a dog home that day, or money for payments, etc. Plus I needed to talk to my husband. I was so worried someone would take her in that time. The people that brought her in, said she was a pure bred beagle, but I am not so sure, and there are no papers. To me, it mattered not, she was so sweet and beautiful to me.
We were lucky enough to get her and bring her home. :)
One day, many months later, we were getting to move north a bit, to the mid west area. One of the boys friends let her out and she got a hold of something awful and poisonous. We found her, and I tried to pick her up, later that night, and she screamed like she was in pain. Next morning, blood all over the house, I freaked out, and found her curled up and she looked dead in the bathroom, hiding. :( We knew it was life or death, and got her to the vet fast. A friend of ours, he said, " I am going to be honest with you, she is dying, and the poison looks like one we have seen before, and she likely will not make it." I was devastated, and knew I had to tell our boys, right before our move, that our dog was probably going to die. Being such a stressful time anyway, I couldn't imagine having to bury our dog too, one we loved so much. Her body was succumbing to the poison, unable to overcome it and eliminate it.
My boys, said something to me on the way to "visit" her in the animal hospital. Here I was, tryign not to cry, and they ask, "Mom, why don't you just pray for her? Pray she will live!" LIke duh....to them. To be honest, this made me feel worse, not better, at first. I was thinking, "aww, she is dying, she can't make it, if you pray you will just be disapointed, etc." BUT, because of what I believe, and because we had seen so many other answered prayers, we decided to. I prayed out loud, very simple but bold, that she would live.
You can see in the pictures, she was very sick, had an IV and everything. The doctor said it was good the boys came to say goodbye to her. I prayed one more quick prayer for her, when no one was looking, as I was touching her little paw...and she was looking so sad at me.
I left, feeling much better, and told the boys that whatever was meant to be, would be, etc. They didn't seem to worried, like they knew it would be ok. We got a call later, that Molly's blood work was better, and bleeding had slowed, and they could try one more charcoal treatment, though she wouldn't like it. I said, yes please, anything.... She lived through it all, and prayers were answered, and she needed some special herbs to help repair a very damaged liver. It was Milk thistle, and another thing too. We took our time on our move, and she adjusted well to the new place.
We still have her today, and she is a joy, though very spoiled as you can imagine. Shes been through a couple other things as well, physically, and is still seeming to go strong. What a joy, and her journey isn't over yet. ;)
The pictures are in chrongological order.
