Keys in the Wrong Hands...

About Thievery

Yesterday I made a decision to write “30 Hubs in 30 Days” and announced it to the hub page world.  Happy with my decision, excited at the prospect of a challenge that would encourage my writing, I hopped on my bike and cycled away to take care of lifes' other little challenges:  banking, groceries, returning DVDs and going to the gym.  Upon my return, sweaty and full of endorphins, or as one of my sisters put it “happy and full of endolphins swimming around”, I jumped into the shower and sudsed up.  Happy, clean, and energized….the perfect time to write.  I walk into my kitchen, and both of my computers are gone.  My stomach falls to the floor, or at least plummets into its’ visceral portage.  No laptop, no desktop..Gone, gone, and gone.  And yet, I locked my door when I left and I unlocked it upon my return.  Nothing else missing, nothing dishevled (well, more than usual), no missing jewelry (ok, this is a bit farcical as I don’t have any).  Who the hell has been in my house?

I call the police, they respond faster than I expected, and actually send someone to dust for prints.  Alas, no one broke in is the news.  Someone used a key.  For me this is the most disturbing news possible.  I am left to not know.  To question, to wonder.  Who do I trust?  There are few people in my life who have keys to my place.  I trusted all of them.  Cut off half my hand, give me a few digits, and you know who was in my life.  I have had a roommate in my past, there have been electricians, realtors, plumbers.  Do we distrust these licensed and bonded folk?

So , it is with a heavy heart, and an unsolved crime upon my mind, that I begin this challenge.
