High Paying Keywords
85
Many online publishers make their money from Google Adsense ads. For us, targeting high paying keywords, can mean the difference between: clicks that make dollars and clicks that makes cents.
In this article, I will show you:
- How to find thousands of high paying keywords
- Exactly how much they are worth
- How much search engine traffic they get
Where to find a high paying niche
Before you can pick high paying adsense keywords you need to find a good niche.
Ezine Articles is my favorite place to look for high paying google keywords, when I run dry on ideas. It is an article directory which means that people are writing articles to get backlinks to their content. These people aren't doing it for fun, the keywords they are targeting are high value ones.
If you open the home page you will see the following:
These are all high earning niche categories. The first 7 running from Business to Real Estate, are the highest value ones.
So, I open one of the top ones, Finance. Then I look down the list and I decide, I am interested in the niche: loans. You can open loans and look at some of the articles that have been written. Pay special attention to the keywords they are targeting and which ones are doing the best.
We are going to look more closely at this niche, but first one more place where you can find a good list of high paying keywords.
This doesn't have to be ClickBank, you could look at any big online affiliate. The idea is that these affiliates are selling products and paying commissions for references. You want to find out what sells the best and then write an article, using relevant keywords. A lot of online marketers buy Adsense ads, then they convert these ads into affiliate sales. So if you pick a winner, there is sure to be high value ads available for your content.
Finding niche keywords with Adsense's tool
Google has created the most powerful keyword research tool. But it wasn't created for publishers like us. It was created for advertisers.
Open the tool, feed the word "loans" into it and run a search.
Then you will see something, like this. I want you to find the drop down list I circled in red. Select Show estimated Avg. CPC, this ads the Estimated Avg. CPC which I marked with a green arrow.
The CPC is how much advertisers pay Google for clicks. Google pays around 40-50% of that to publishers. So loan clicks pay around $5. If you look down the column some of the loan related keywords pay more.
Next to the CPC column you have the Advertiser Competition column. The more green you have in the bar, the higher the competition.
In the next column you have the search volume in the previous month and after that the average monthly search volume. By default this is set to broad, that is the number of searches, that have those keywords in them. Look at the drop down box which I have circled in magenta. You can change the settings there from Broad to Exact. Then you are looking at the searches which used those exact keywords.
Now a warning
Unfortunately, we aren't the only ones that have spotted just how valuable visitors to this content is. Which means that there is masive competition for these super valuable keywords. If you can't get your web page to the first page on Google's search results, there is very little chance of making much money from it.
Lets look at the Google search to get an idea of the competition.
I have a plugin installed in Firefox, which shows the PR of web pages returned by Google search. I have circled the top 3 results with red circles. They are 8, 6 and 4. Also I have circled the number of results that Google returned, which is 16,500,000. It would be very hard to get to the top of the search results, for this keyword.
So what now?
Well the game is to find well paying keywords, with reasonable amounts of traffic and not too much competition. I tend to target ones that pay around $1 per click and has more than 1,000 Exact searches, every month.

Well, again, great information. Keywords are SO important for PPC. You've given some ideas and info that most will not know.
Check this out... it can give you the competitions keywords, great help FREE http://hubpages.com/hub/Spy-On-Websites-With-Free-
The plugin is called "SEO for Firefox" http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/seo-for-firefox.h
That's not all it does, it also highlights all the "nofollow" links on a page. Great plugin.
Dont assume that you will get anything close to what google lists in their keyword tool. There are many factors in play that all tend to reduce what the adsense program pays. See http://hubpages.com/hub/How-does-the-adwords-biddi for more information
Thanks. The article directory idea is anew thing till now i was using Google adwords, Google insight Search, wordtracker. wordtracker is a good tool if you are looking for various combinations.
Hi JGaunt! This hub is officially entered into our Feb. Fri the 13th Hubnuggets Poll! Congratulations! :-) Visit Shirley Anderson's hub to vote: http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubber-Poll-Your-February-
There is much to learn about earning online. And using high paying keywords is one of them. Now this I need to learn LOL :-)
Thats a classic example of the sort of keywords newbies go for and then wonder why they can't rank. The reality is that most sites on page 1 of google for bad loans or other gold mines are there because they buy links! Who wouldn't for the money involved - but its never discussed because its VERY against google's TOS! I just wrote a hub on a similar topic - my main advice would be to avoid weight loss, loans, credit cards and dogs - always used as an example by people teaching SEO!
I am noticing another pattern which is quite weird and I don't know why it works or how, but I will be writing a hub soon, if I can pinpoint the why's and wherefores, hub was good reading.
Hey interesting hub jGaunt Thanks for sharing!
P.S. That Firefox plugin is a little off.. I don't know if they have fixed the problem yet but some of the No Follows were reporting as Do Follows and vice versa. How do I know? Because i checked the source codes of webpages to see how accurate it was. The ranking tool is superb as far as I've seen tho!For a better tool on followed links and all I'd suggest the NoDoFollow Firefox plugin- http://vur.me/multimastery/nodofollow
Lissie while it is true that the high paying niches are over crowded, if you research the keywords with the Adsense tool. It is possible to find combinations that pay well, but isn't too heavily covered. Though, I personally prefer to look for lower competition keywords than the ones you mentioned.
why have you not approved my comment?
ajcor I only aprove comments that ad to the hubpage. "Nice hub" isn't goint to make the cut.
What a fantastic article, this has been so helpful to someone like me just in my early stages of hubbing. It is probably the most helpful hub on this subject I have read so far thanks
Best thing about the google keyword suggestion tool is that it gives you a clear picture regarding seo, making money through adsense and helps you to calculate ppc budget for a website, if you are interested in doing so.
Great article, Very well explained. Keep posting more.
Thank you so much for the information. You helped me learn another area to look when searching adwords. I also enjoyed the comments. There is so much to learn and I do enjoy others sharing information. Thank you all.
I would say that is somewhat shortsighted of you - have you considered that each comment adds to your traffic and that sometimes people ( who maybe short of time) just make a small comment as a form of bookmark in their comment file in order to come back later to re-read and or indeed make a more apt/pertinent remark....cheers
Before start using Google Keywords tool, pay attention to link which says:
Search-based Keyword Tool
Here you will find hot niches.
If anybody need assist how to discover what people are buying, just let me know.
Cheers.
It's interesting how the right keywords make a difference in income. I've seen 10 clicks on an entertainment site that netted a total of $0.35. Meanwhile, a loan site with 1 click can net $3.00.
Great article, Very well explained. Keep posting more.
This kind of article are more important and useful for a learner
Very nice hub and truly helpful for everyone including the brand new people like myself thanks for the info!
Hi, this is pretty good information, there is another great way to find valuable keywords wit a free firefox plugin see more at

Read an see how easy things can be
nice details but adsense ads are published by millions of publishers and most of them are using this techniques so i dont think you will always get high paying keywords on your site
thanx friend for very nice information
Thanks for sharing it here... I'll apply this technique and hopefully my adsense revenue will go UP.
Kool Hub, Absolutely agreed....Basically we need to concentrate on long trail keywords with nice compition because if keywords do not have compitition then you wont get much clicks, thus certain amount of keywords with some compition might be there. You must have concrete seo strategy to come on top. Rite...
Thanx
great gub and nice collection and explanation of the information.good job done.and its better for gaining your business.
shrivcom - I don't always target longtail keywords. My title is usually the keywords I am targeting and will typically be 3-5 words. Also I don't go after high competition keywords. What I tend to target is Keywords where the competition is low, the Adsense clicks pay $1 or more and where 1,000 or more people use the exact keyword phrase I am targeting.
nice internet marketing overview.
Hey, thanks for sharing... btw, usually high paying keywords are so saturated in market. seems like everyone is targeting on them. Oh well, keep up the good work!
Duh, where do you put keywords in your hub? In the tags, in the content?
In both Tom.
Also repeat the keywords in the content a few times.
thanks for your patience as I deal with my "future shock" :0)
Hmmm now I've often wondered about actually trying to focus my attention on some keywords that haven't much competition but do pay over a dollar...now I think I've found a handful. let the trial and error commence!!
Good info JGaunt!
I look forward to reading your future hubs...
A good way to find new keywords with the adsense tool is to provide it with a URL to generate what it thinks your keywords should be. Try adding different websites like news sites and specific niche websites that have regularly updated content on their homepage. Run the tool and see if it finds any good potential keywords to focus on. This method helps find more unexpected keywords that you would not have first thought of.
Nice hub. Thank you for the information about Google Ad Sense, I will review this. Please visit my hubs when you have a chance.
G'day mate, I have just read through your comments and noticed that you have not approved some comments. Fair enough that is your choice! However you do not seem consistant in your selections. eg the comment above this from "chloefaith" which is gratuitous and self promoting. Will you please explain the rules again to your fans!
btw good hub
Great info and now I know how several of my articles ended up on the first page and the first line of google, this is fantastic and I 'm am bookmarking for reference. :)
agvulpes - I prefer comments that ad to the discussion on the hub. I only delete the ones that are very short or generic to improve the quality of the hub, for my readers.
I allow a few short comments on every hub, because it helps with the hub rank.
Also I tend to be more lenient with my fans.
Hope that clears it up.
Thank you for being lenient with your fans I'm sure the rest of your fans appreciate that.
Personally I do not "deny" any "comments " unless the language is offensive.
We are all on Hubpages for various reasons and at different levels of efficiency, so I believe each member has a right to be treated in a civil and equal manner.
I try to treat my Fans as they deserve to be treated and not in some offhanded ,pompous and arrogant manner .
I hope that this comment does well for your Hub rank!
Too much useful info & really making money with Google adsense is not that easy as people think. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Informative piece. But I had expected something else, though. You've written on how to find the high paying keywords and then added there's so much competition for them. I think that's probably something one expects. So I was thinking, while reading your article, if you'd be covering something on how to choose less competitive keywords and how to capitalize on them.
Would you care to add that to your article? I imagine that would benefit your readers a lot, including this Internet loving hubpager.
Robert
Firstly the search engines aren't the only source of traffic. So, you can target those keywords and get traffic elsewhere.
You are never going to rank for 'loans' but you might be able to rank well for 'how to find cheap boat loans' and you will get similar amounts from those clicks as you will from 'loans'.
There is no formula for finding keywords that have good traffic and pays ok. I just read around, in my niche, on Ezine and related blogs. If I have an idea I write it down and every now and again I research my ideas with the keyword tool and Google's search engine.
Thanks for usefull info. Good tips for newbe like me :)
Great information, bookmarked, thumbed-up. Thanks for sharing.
Good and informative. It makes sense to focus on low competition keywords because the popular ones can be really competitive. I use this function too, thanks for sharing with others and reminding myself as well..because I seem to neglect this of late.
Bookmarking this hub right now.... Very helpful and informative.
Very useful info. Thanks. Do you have a rough definition or rule of thumb for how you decide what are low competition keywords - eg, under x results in Google or top results with PRs under x?
If you input the keywords in apostrophes "best toys for toddlers" it returns only sites which use the exact phrase. I like that to return under 1,000 results and I probably won't go for it if it's over 10,000.
I also look at the PR of the results on the first page. But it's more intuitive because you want to look at how relevant the pages are to the keywords which you are targeting.
OK that's great. Thanks for the reply.
Great post very clear explination it will be very helpful for me.

Now you went and let everyone else know of these. I'll have nothing to read about except real estate, loans and dog food for the next few weeks in Hubpages.
These are pretty much what I have been taught, but I haven't found my niche yet. Maybe it could be a combo of Stay at Home Business, with Relationships and Women's Interests. Yeah, I could cause some havoc with that! Especially if I add Food and Drinks and some Recreation and Sports to it.
Hey, you're little ranking tool is good. Where did you get it?
Keep on Hubbing!
