Advice to a New Hubber
66
Enjoy Writing
This article has came at request and what a creative article to be able to write. As many of you know I have been year for a year and believe me it has been not only exciting but fun, some of my articles were boring and others were very interesting. You will not always capture the audience with your subject matter or material, here are is a little bit of advice to keep your keyboard moving.
1. Never give up:
no matter how frustrated you are keep writing, never give up check out the requests as someone out in HubPages land is hoping that someone will pick their subject to write on.
2. Write your own requests:
Sometimes we cannot find the answers and or we haven't any idea on how the article should flow and we need someone's valued thoughts on the subject, request it as not only can you make a new friend , you can also enjoy reading other articles from a fresh point of view.
3. You gain more with sugar then with salt:
I have seen this multiple times where a hubber writes an article and then they get angry or upset when you choose to make your own comment and or they eliminate the comment box all together. My personal advice on this, if you are going to write an article where peoples' opinions are going to be expressed, expect to have many comments and stay open minded as your opinion as much as there's counts. Be open minded and diplomatic when commenting as this has been a lesson learned based on experience, as all are entitled to expression and thoughts.
4. Policy and Procedure: Many newbies do not have a clue on what the policy and procedure is on HubPages, my recommendation is check out the help tab located in the upper right hand corner and read it, as this will eliminate an abundance of frustration and confusion for yourself and will also avoid being flagged and your article being removed.
5. Pictures on articles
Many of us realize that you have to become familiar with the program , however adding pictures and videos to identify your article allows others to understand what you are presenting and seems to attract many more readers then an article without a picturesque view.
6. Who You Are:
Who you are is just as important as the article itself, as adding a profile and a Avatar expressing your character or a picture of yourself paints a thousand words of who you are , as we cannot see each other so we need to see and read about the person.
7. Length of articles:
We all realize that sometimes our articles are way to lengthy and as you get comfortable and start exploring other articles you will find your niche' so do not get frustrated if it is to long or to short , you can always go back and add or delete from the original.
8. Forums:
Forums are there for assistance, socializing, debating and creating topics that you may not have an answer for and would like multiple opinions on . It is not for selling or advertising a product and the best way to get banned from hubpages, is to utilize the forums for spam. Use the forums to the best of your ability and network as you can learn so much from others and it will also make you known to the hubpages community.
9. Fans:
We all know how important having fans are and as you write articles and begin to become a fan , in turn others will join your fan club. You should stop by their hub and let them know that you appreciate their articles as well. Keep in mind they may not visit you , everytime you write an article but they will certainly not leave you either.
10. Have Fun:
Most of all just have fun as everyone in this community is here for you, and if you can't find the answer ask as someone will either provide you with the answer or guide you to the information.
Enjoy writing as you will find HubPages to be a fun-filled community , with a warm atmosphere and a mound of knowledge.
And by the way HAPPY HUBBING!!!

Julianna, this is excellent!
I agree great suggestions for new hubbers. I always feel a need to check out a profile when I like what someone has said. So it is really helpful when there is some info over there. I really should check out the forums more. Whenever I ask a question there I do get good advice. I am really impressed with most of the community over here. I joined Squidoo at the same time and I quickly started doing more here because of the great feedback and comments. Over on Squidoo I get some, but it took a lot more time for people to notice me and my pages.
Netters, You are so welcome!! I have been new and understand the experiences.
BDazzler. Thank you !!
jim10. ProfoundPuns requested a hub on this and it was brilliant , I only wrote the article so I have to give credit to the writer who requested it as well. I am happy to having writen it, and I am glad that you found it useful.:)

Great Job Chicky! Thanks for the information. This answers several questions for new members.
Very nice, thanks for all the great tips!
Reall great thoughtful and useful advice. Let me know if you think I fall into any of those categories! I kind of like my avatar though!
Ashley, Anytime as I have learned from some of my own experiences.
Louise, As always I seem to look out for others as I have noticed a lot of flagging lately as noody is reading the help info before posting. It is nothing like seeing someone get flagged there first time around, especially when they love to write.
internetincomehub, I like your avatar as well it is beautiful and takes me away from life for a moment, I have always loved the beach. The avatars always seem to express a person character, life, purpose, meaning or who they are. I will definitely check out the articles and welcome to hubpages.:
Any tips are always good for new AND old hubbers!

Nice hub AEvans. The biggest thing for me is to try and stay focused when writing hubs. I will start a hub or article on another site with one thing on my mind, and by the end of it, I will want to write about something completely different haha.
Keep the creative juices flowing
JVanDeWalker
Thank You for the help I am a new hubber!
Good advice and tips for the new hubbers. Thanks for helping the new hubbers.
gemfind, You are welcome and have fun @ HubPages!!! :)
Hi, Thats great advice to new hubbers! I'm fairly new to hubpages and while i really am enjoying myself writing, I am still figuring out how to use all the tools hubpages has to offer hubbers such as linking to other pages etc. I'm still experimenting with all that, just doing a little bit everyday.
Great advice for a newbie like me! Thank you!
Good hub.Such advices would help for newbies to come out of procrastination. Thanks
Vibhavari, Stacey Mac, tselvi, I am so happy that everyone is enjoying themselves and there is so much valuable information on HubPages that can guide you. Always check for updates on the forum as well. Coming out of procrastination is good and that very first article is frightening as we have all walked through those doors. Keep the articles coming as believe me many will find interest in unique ideas, thoughts and creativity. :)
Some great and positive advice to keep us hubbers truckin' along. Thanks.
These are great tips, and I really needed them! I also appreciate the comment you made at the Hubber's Hangout about making comments.
I think my biggest problem right now is that by the time I finish writing a hub, it can be so time consuming to find videos and pictures (free ones!) that truly compliment the content. But you're absolutely right about this, and I just need to suck it up and spend more time doing it. :)
Geneva, Youare so welcome and welcome to HubPages!!:)
Pam, type in free pictures.com and it will pull down a list to choose from. The videos are complicated, so those are always a choice. I have found myself that by the time I put it on, You Tube has pulled them off, but don't worry it all takes practice. I am still trying to figure out my RSS FEEDS as everyone time I use it, before I know it there is a broken link , so again patience and practice, as well I am still learning. Thank you for commenting and welcome !!! Have fun and enjoy, and please do not ever give up.:)
Wikimedia Creative Commons has a lot of public domain pictures.
Just google Wikimedia.
BDazzler, Thanks so much for sharing as I myself did nto even know about that one. We are all continually learning.:)
Very good tips! I definitely second the "Have Fun" one. I would also add "and don't expect to get rich quick" :) I am very happy to get any kind of eyeballs, because even 1 eyeball, is 1 more than I would have gotten if I didn't have the article.
shibashake, That is such a positive outlook and you will do well with that attitude!!:)
Good ideas in here thanks
Eileen, you are quite welcome :)
Very good ideas! I wish I had that when I first started. It was slow, but as you say FUN!
RGraf: I couldn't agree with you more as it is fun, I just continue to hope that many do not give up as sharing new articles and fresh thoughts makes reading much more enjoyable. :)
Thanks for good advice, I will definitely use it.
I have two quesstions - firstly I see BDazzler calls you Julianna (I think on another Hub I saw that also), so is your name really Julianna?
Secondly I often pick up small errors on peoples' Hubs, grammatical and spelling stuff, for isntance, and wonder if I should point these out in comments on the Hubs or would people think I'm being pendantic and pushy? I know that I would appreciate feedback on more techinical aspects of writing like that, if anyone picks up things on my Hubs.
Anyway thanks again for an excellent Hub.
Love and peace,
Tony
Hi Tony, My name is Julianna Annette but many call me Julianna and you may do so as well.:) Some may be offended, if you point them out for the community to see, others would be appreciative. My personal recommendation is if you notice it ,send them a e-mail and let them know what you noticed as many will certainly be happy to correct it. Personally myself I am happy if someone finds it, as after you proofread it multiple times for some reason your eyes seem to overlook it. We are all in this together, so critiquing is find with me. Welcome to HubPages!!
great...this is a good benchmark.......
Thank you for commenting on my hub and for your encorragment
marian14: You are welcome and I am happy you have gotten something from it.
ilovehubbing: I am the type of person that loves to encourage others to do better with themselves, as I have always loved helping others. Keep hubbing and as always you will see me stopping by. :)
I agree about just write! Dont worry about anything else...just write for fun and good things will happen....although im still waiting over here :)
I have to agree that pictures on articles are important. I really gota put some on my hubs. Been trying to figure out how this can be done easily :)
childcen: On line you can type in free pics and believe me the interent will give you a list. Once you find the picture that you are looking for if you have microsoft right click and click on save picture as.... Once you have did this go to your new article, click edit on the photo capsule.... click on browse which should bring you to your pictures and then click uplaod, I hope this helps you and thanks for reading as we all continue to learn and I am still learning SEO's and Feeds.:)
AE, Thank you for taking the time to offer this terrific advice.
b4u2c: You are so welcome anytime.:)
AEvans, Great Hub and really good tips for all people to follow not just new Hubbers. To all have a safe & Happy Holiday.

Hey AEvans. Thanks for stopping my hub and left me your comment. I considered myself a new hubber so it's great seeing someone giving useful tips, warm welcomes and encouragement of "Never Give Up". Very sweet of you!
yxhuang: You are so welcome as if we all strive to be all we can be, then we will never have a regret.:)
Thanks for making this article. It's in simple wording, easy to follow and gives an input in what should and shouldn't be done by newcomer to HubPages. :)
michelle willow: You are very welcome as they are all tools that I have used and continue to use on HubPages we are all always learning something new.:)
Great hub lots of information. AEvans.
tonymac04 I like it if someone lets me know I have made a mistake in spelling or writing in my hub. I can't spell and I'm not a writer so all help is welcomed. I use spell check but sometimes it just doesn't catch it.
Oh I meant to ask how can you tell when someone has been flagged. I have been here a year and still don't know some of the answers.
kerry: You are so welcome
moonlake: It is a good question, how do you know if someone has been flaggged, I would like that answer too.:)
Now if they are our articles you will get a notice that your hub has been flagged., I however thank god I have not recieved one of those.:)
good article lot of good info
Hi AEvans, Really good advice for new hubbers. Old hubbers get great tips here also.
Lgali: Thank you for stopping by
BeatsMe: I have to agree and I utilize it often and have not forgotten where I have came from.:)

Wow the first one seems so true as ive been working late nights for writing a hub and no comment until today so i would personally stick to number uno work hard and dont give up i know i havent..
charanjeet: Please never give up and you will do well , just keep on going and we are all looking forward to reading your articles.:)
Good advice and information for new hubbers.
AEvans, Great advice! I love the information. I have had a few not-so-nice comments, but I still included them. Everyone has an opinion and who am I to stifle them. Thanks for this hub, I really enjoyed it!
k@ri: I am certain that you have had some not so nice comments as we have all had them at one time or another, just be yourself and you are correct everyone is entitled so why stop them from freedom of expression. :)
Awesome tips, AEvans!
I am brand new to the Hubpages community as of a day and a half ago, and I feel like your tips will help me move forward and truly enjoy my experiences with Hubpages.com! Thank you so much for sharing! -SevDiggity

srhgompf: You are so welcome and we are glad that you are now beginning to write, I am looking forward to your articles.:)
This is the first time I have been interested in hubs. Joined some time ago and never came back. Its one of those things that you wish you had continued doing.
I've decided to write here when I feel tired of writing for others and need a break just for fun. I wish I had read this some time back.
tonyrich: All of us have did things, I am certainly glad that you are here and am looking forward to reading some of your articles. :)
Thanks for the help, your great as usual. Now if I can just master the techy stuff
Sandman: If you ever need assistance we are always here to help.:)
This is good information! I copied down several tips for getting free photos. Guess I need to check out the forums and also find out about the RSS feeds, etc. Still learning...but having fun and enjoy meeting new people like you.
PeggyW: You can print it out if you wish and get on over to the forums as you will also find some valuable information just by simply reading the topics. I wish you all of the best at hubpages. :)

badcompany99: We have all been on a learning curve and all of us have had to at one time or another need to go back!!! I am happy to be your fav writer and have a blessed day!!! :)
Hi AEvans,
Great info and advice, as new in this community I still needs all those advices. I'm still learning, and you are right.
Reading others hubs it give me more ideas. Thanks...
shegarlynn: You are so welcome and I enjoy when others continue to read this hub.:)
Hi AEvans! I really liked this article. I have a question though. I am relatively new to hubpages and since we are "co-fans" (with you being my very first), I hope you don't mind me asking. I DO NOT KNOW how "the money thing" works. I have a google adsense account that is activated on hubpages as well as Amazon and Kontera (all activated). Do you have to have ALL FOUR (including ebay partnering network) activated here on HP before you can earn even one cent? I would really appreciate your educating "a rookie"! Thanks So much! Reinalisa1
a very informative article for a new hubber.
just liked this one.thank you
thanks for your advice, you gave me hope to continue.
arundreams: Thank you so much and I hope that you enjoy HP as much as I have. :)
maribin: Keep on going and do not give up I thought that at first myself and I have been here over 2 years you can do it. :)
#11 Don't write out of personal vengance :) When I started hubpages I started with a hub detailing my experiences with my ex husband and how he stalked me. Was not productive, was not successful and nobody cared! Since I figured this out I have had more fun and success here. I see a few writers who are new and are doing the woe is me stuff and I just want to tell em Cut it out and move on! I'm so damn therapuetic. Thanks for good hub from a not so newbie
MsChievous: Thank you for sharing that and it certainly is great advise to a new person, I have to agree I have seen several that right continually about there lives however it is therapeutic that they have share it just like yourself. You definitely are theraputic and have given again some of the best advise. Maybe my friend who lives with us temporarily after going through an ugly Divorce will take heed. She joined HP and also she has done is rant she is glstngroseptls. I told her to stop but she does not listen. grrrrrr she will learn. :)
Wish I had read this along time ago!! Great HUb!
dori
fortunerep: It will always be here and thank you :)
