It all begin two days after my grandfather passed away from colon cancer at the age of 68. I walked into Wal-Mart with my mother, little brother and my first child ( she was a toddler at the time).

We were completely grief stricken from our loss of one of someone very dear to our hearts, he was a fun-loving, hilarious hiper-active, unselfish preacher whom all loved that knew him.

Meanwhile my brother went off his own way to look at things he liked, while mom and I cried throughout the store attempting to shop. Sensing our despair it must have stressed out my toddler because she started acting very hiper and then started throwing fits in the store. We were already a basket case so this just done me in. Having all I could take we rushed out the door ( my little girl was going to be in trouble when we got out to the car). In our frustrated moment we headed out without even telling my brother we were leaving.

A moment after reaching the car and while I was preparing to scold my daughter for being so notty, an elderly man in overalls came running over to us with a great big smile kindly greeting us.

He started passing out Carefree bubble gum, he asked, " Can the little girl have one, their sugar free Mom?"

Smiling back now I said," Of course, thank you." My daughter calmed down and was happy too as well as my mom. After chatting with the tot awhile he looked over seriously at me and my mom with a gentle compassionate look on his face and begin to tell us how he understood how it was with us women crying after funerals and he begin to say quick, yet encouraging statements. Before we knew we were all calm and care free like the bubble gum we were chewing, completely shocked that this man seemed to know what we were going through after our loss.

As he begin to leave he turned around and said, " By the way I told your son you were out at the car and gave him a piece of gum too." He smiled and was gone so fast we didn't see where he went.

Moments later we were discussing what was just happened with my little brother who soon joined us. Stunned we realized that it seemed almost impossible he could have been there talking to my brother in the store and following us out when our decision to leave was so hasty, plus he came from the opposite direction of the parking lot. My brother told us his account and it matched the old mans. We couldn't hardly fathom how much he seemed to know about our situation. We then asked ourselves, " Was that little old man in overalls an angel unaware?"

Logic can try to reason away possiblities, but I believe he was our angel in overalls Care Free bubble gum and all.

Was that little old man in overalls an angel unaware?

I don’t know.  What I do know is that God cares for us and He is in charge of all things, including sending an angel if needed.

Thank you for the wonderful story. ~ eddie

Tears filled my eyes as I read this. The loss of a loved one is always hard. I also feel that God can take care of our needs even when we grieve. I am so glad that this testimony came for you a a time when it was needed desparately. May the grace of God be upon your lives always.

Hey Candace -

Loved the symbolism of the Carefree bubblegum!

My brother in law on Oahu has had some encounters with angels like this too....near his work place, I guess there is an area where some homeless people hang out. One day, a person who he'd never noticed amongst them approached him and asked him for money. Pat gave him some money and the man noticed a picture of Pat's grandson and asked who that was. Pat told him and then the man asked if he could pray for his grandson and what was his name. Pat told him and the man prayed a beautiful prayer. Then he turned and walked away and after a moment, Pat looked after him and didn't see him and never saw him again amongnst the other 'regulars' who hang out there.

Mike here on hubpages from Oregon has some great stories to share about angels too... (there are a couple characters after his first name...can't remember what they are - he's originally from Ireland and his wife is Cynthia).

Nice uplifting story, singingmommy. I'm seen a number of guardian angels in my lifetime, and they're always inspiring. They always seem to show up at just the right time.
