The producer eventually scolds the people just before they are about to cut down a landmark tree and they finally return to their normal way of life.

Trivia/Notes/Quotes

  • This episode shows one of those spinning newspaper headline scenes (where the newspaper spins very fast and then stops suddenly with some dramatic headline) very common in film and TV during the 1940s and 50's. This is the only time this is ever used.
  • This episode marks the first time we see Barney and Andy lock themselves in a cell.
  • Aunt Bee admits to Mr. Harmon, the producer, that she likes Rock Hudson. Frances Bavier starred in the 1952 film Bend of the River with Rock Hudson and Jimmy Stewart.
  • This episode introduces Howard McNear as Floyd the barber, but his last name is not Lawson. During the tour of the town Andy introduces Mr. Harmon to Floyd and when they leave Mr. Harmon calls Floyd "Mr. Colby." This matches the shop's window, which reads "COLBY'S TONSORIAL PARLOR" during the Hollywood mania.
  • Josie Lloyd appears as the mayor's daughter, Juanita Pike. She would appear two episodes later, being called "Josephine Pike".
  • Barney is talking about someone from Mayberry who went to Hollywood and took a tour of the Star's Home and the bus took them to Gary Cooper's house, where they got out and looked at his newspaper. This is the exact scene that was filmed in "Taylor's go to Hollywood" six years later, except that Cooper's house was replaced with Cesar Romero's.
  • Andy: "Ain't we a picking our peaches fore they're fuzzed up good?"
  • Andy (Introducing Floyd to the producer) : Floyd used to practice on cats. We had the baldest cats in the county."

  • The series was filmed entirely in Hollywood, at Desilu Productions on the former RKO Pictures lot. Mayberry exteriors were shot on the former Selznick International Pictures lot, later known as Forty Acres. The rural fishing hole that opened each episode was Franklin Canyon Lake, just north of Beverly Hills. Franklin Canyon was also the site of the show's Myers Lake and other outdoor locales.
  • The whistled theme song, "The Fishin' Hole" was composed by Earle Hagen (the music coordinator and famous whistler of the show) and Herbert Spencer, with unsung lyrics by Everett Sloane. Hagen also wrote the music for the series.
