Its apple picking time in western North Carolina and let me tell you they are so good this year. There is nothing like biting into an apple just picked from the tree. The taste just explodes in your mouth and the juice is just so good. And North Carolina especially the western part of the state is where you want to go for some of the best fresh apples you will ever eat.

You can travel north on highway 18 out of Shelby North Carolina and just a few miles north out of Shelby North Carolina you will start to see apple orchards and stands selling apples. Or you can travel west on 74/64 business out of Rutherford North Carolina on the Chimney Rock highway and you will find plenty of apple orchards and stands selling apples all along the road there. And there on the Chimney Rock highway you will see some of the most beautiful scenery on earth.

Travel west at least to Bat Cave North Carolina and you will pass through Lake Lure , Chimney Rock and then you will come to the little town of Bat Cave. You can find some really nice little Inns to spend the night in and you will find an abundance of apple orchards, apple stands selling apples and other apple products like apple cider, apple juice and homemade applesauce. You will find several very good restaurants in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Be sure to try the apple fries and apple pie served at these locations. And be sure to buy apples to take home with you.  And what ever you do take a camera along to take photos as you drive along some of the most beautiful scenic highways in western North Carolina.
