Argentina: Sights
75Argentina: Tourist Sigths
Picking sights from Argentina is always a difficult task, because there are so many natural and tourist attractions to discover that the visitor is almost overwhelmed by them. This list of Argentine sights is my little contribution to spread the knowledge of some great tourist sites that Argentina presents to the interested traveler.
Cerro Torre at Sunrise
Patagonia
Cerro Torre:
The windy little town of El Chalten is the base for trekkers and climbers that aspire to enjoy the granite vertical ranges of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. From the Albergue Los Ñires arise a path that follows more or less the northern side of the Fitz Roy River up to reach Campamento Bridwell, a free camping area without facilities below Cerro Solo. Here the route heads northwest through a moraine, passes Refugio Maestri to finally climbs to Mirador Maestri (Cerro Torre Lookout) where if there were a pocked of good weather, something extremely uncommon, lucky trekkers could be rewarded with superb views of Cerro Torre and Cordon Adela.
Argentina: Sights. Perito Moreno Glacier Starts a Rupture
Perito Moreno Glacier: always into the top Argentina must see sights
Located 60km west of El Calafate, the Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most important natural tourist attractions of Argentina. Sights of its fractures gather thousand of captivated tourist from all over the world. Every few years the advance of the glacier’s tongue blocks off a major branch of Lago Argentino building a natural dam. When the level of water increase and the dam can not stand anymore the formidable pressure, the ice wall breaks in a spectacular demonstration of the power of nature.
Garganta del Diablo
Iguazú Falls: one of the most popular sights of Argentina
Situated in the northeast corner of the country where the Argentine, Brazilian and Paraguayan frontier meet. The Iguazu Falls are other impressive Landmark of Argentina. Tourist sights of the falls can be done from four different circuits: Inferior, Superior, The Garganta del Diablo, and the San Martin Island. The Garganta del Diablo is at the heart of a half moon of 80 meters high with a diameter of 2700 meters. This semicircle is formed for 275 individual waterfalls that convert the Iguazu Falls in one of the most spectacular of the world. The Iguazú National Park was created in 1934. It encompasses the falls and the exuberant jungle surrounding them, and was declared a UNESCO world heritage area.

Whale watching in Argentina. Sights could be funny too
Valdes Peninsula:
The marine natural spectacle in Valdes Peninsula is simply wonderful. Whales, orcas, penguins, seabirds, sea lions, and other species of seals arrived in the spring from the sea to give birth to the next generation of their offspring. Witnessing this fantastic gathering of several different sea animals is a must see tourist attraction of Argentina. Sights are best from mid September to early December, when the whales arrive at the coast and star all the shows.
.
Cerro de los Siete Colores
Jujuy
Purmamarca and Cerro de los Siete Colores:
In Quichua the town’s name, Purmamarca, gives the traveler and idea of the landscape he will find. Purma means infertile or not inhabit and marca means town. So, it is the land there: arid almost without plants, but the multicolor shapes of the mountains surrounding the town make up for this insignificant lack. The most remarkable is the Cerro de los Siete Colores (seven colors hill) that stands near the town dominating it with its awesome beauty.
Ushuaia
Tierra del Fuego
Ushuaia:
Bays, capes, promontories and inlets shape the tortuous shoreline of the Beagle channel around the southern part of Ushuaia, where the storms lash continually the cost. Toward the north the city meets what remains of the Andes. The snow-capped ranges here average 1500 meters high and their slopes are covered with a luxuriant forest of lengas, ñires and coihues.
Cordoba
National Folklore Festival in Cosquin:
The town of Cosquin is located 62km from the city of Cordoba, the provincial capital. Every January in the town takes place the National Folklore Festival, the major folkloric music event in the country. The festival, which has taken place since 1964, runs along 9 nights (known as the nine moons of Cosquin) and all the most popular folkloric musicians and singers from the country want to perform there. This celebration is an outstanding example of the traditional Argentina.
