Business Names

The name of any business is the one thing that sticks in our minds. I mean, yea the quality of work is also there, but the name, now that's important.

With a bad business name, you risk potential clients and customers, so when choosing a business name there are so many things that you need to consider.

Check out, How to Choose A Business Name, if you're looking for good business names.

Otherwise, if you're just looking to read some funny business names, continue reading because you're sure to find a few bad business names and inappropriate business names.

Funny & Bad Business Names

Bad business names are those that work on word play, puns of the job, current trends, and bad abbreviations (well business name abbreviations can be funny but not the most appropriate).

Although some business names can be funny, that doesn't make them any good.

Inappropriately Funny Business Names

Inappropriate business names are those that evoke a bad image. Well, not all the time, but when a business name evokes a neutral, or negative connotation, the business name is inappropriate.

In terms of an inappropriate business name, it's not quite like inappropriate words, phrases, and behaviors from normal daily life. These business names are more or less those that are just inappropriate names for a business or that type of business.

Those are some bad ones. We have a place in Seattle called Butch's Gun Shop, and it cracks me up.

I'm interested in why you should think a certain business name is bad. Surely the measure of a name's worth is whether it attracts business. I have come across some excellent names that simply make you stop and think, such as the hair salon called Hair Today, and the bookshop in London's Turnham Green district called Turnham Pages. Many of the names on your lists are brilliant!

I have come across several that are unfortunate, because they rely on an inappropriate name or set of initials. Among these are Breakwell Glass and GBH Autos (in the UK, GBH stands for Grevious Bodily Harm!). I am also unsure whether I would visit Mr Cramp the chiropodist or the barber shop run by Scutum and Punchard!

I chose my own business name to say who I am and what I do, and hopefully to be a name that nobody else had chosen before. I therefore operate under the name Welford Writes, because my name is Welford and I write!

I agree with the Indexer. A lot of those names you have as samples are just great. I think the first one on your list is awesome "SEW WHAT" explains all.

If a business has a tongue in cheek name it is so much easier to remember...I found. As advertising with humor sells more, so does a good funny name.

Great fun collection of business names. regards Zsuzsy

Indexer and Zsuzsy, I'm not necessarily saying that all of the names are bad.  think I just need to rename my titles. Some of the business names are funny and clever, they're just not all ideal.

I personally, don't think that Get Crabs Here is an appropriate or good business name. That's just me.

Bad doesn't have to mean that they're not funny or clever.

Some inappropriate but are easy to remember. One thing, my boyfriend even made designs for Shoemake's Cakes. Kinda odd.

Whitney! You're right "Get crabs here" is really off the cuff. Still makes me laugh though. Please don't change your hub...It's great the way it is. Your point is that when choosing a busuness name one should not take it lightly...A business name is very important. So "Get Plastered" is not for the neon over the door its to celebrate the grand opening. I love the hub

Thank you Zsuzsy. Yes that is the point I'm trying to make. I'm glad that you got it. :-) I think that 'Get Plastered' is the name for a construction type business who does drywall and such.

Z, I'll get plastered in something but it won't be celebration. ;-) or rather :-( Ha. I didn't fair to well. The teacher offers you to take it twice, and I at least did better the 2nd time.

Nope. I sure don't. I'm the type of person that needs a lot of sleep, too, and it's near 1 am my time. My alarm goes off at 9 am, but the past few days I've been ignoring it till 10:30. Ha. The dogs usually don't mind, but sometimes they really gotta go, and don't let me sleep.

Another offering, this time of a name that I DO think is unfortunate, is a local carpet-fitting firm called Easy Lay. I wonder how they are able to recruit receptionists who are happy to answer the phone and say the company's name down the line!

Sometimes its not what you say, it's the way that you say it. I don't know about Americans, but we Brits often refer to Cafe Nerd, because the O looks so much like a D!

Hilarious--one of my favorites here in Wash state is a Vietnamese noodle restaurant called WHAT THE PHO (Pho-pronouned like "fah"). Love the hub:)

Very entertaining and interesting. There used to be a plumbing supply company in Norwalk, Conn., named "The Royal Flush." I don't know whether or not it helps business, but it sure attracts your attention.

Very funny. There's a PMS Insurance agency in Garden Grove, CA. When we drove past it, my daughter-in-law said, "I didn't know you could get insurance for that."

I did a hub on Beauty Shop names-- but I think they are required by law to have punny, funny or alliterative ones.

How is it vulgar? It doesn't sound that bad to me, especially since the touwn is Isle.
