How To Make Beeritas?

Updated on January 30, 2023

What is a Beerita?

A Beerita is the perfect blend of a classic margarita and a refreshing beer. The combination of the tart lime, tequila, and the effervescence of the beer creates a delightful and thirst-quenching experience. Add salt to rim your glass and you'll get an extra layer of refreshment, making a Beerita a great option for a hot summer day or any time you're in need of a pick-me-up. Whether you're relaxing by the pool or just looking for a unique twist on a traditional margarita, a Beerita is sure to hit the spot.

In search of the best Beerita recipe, you may also see them referred to as "beer margaritas" - I've even seen recipes referring to them as a "Coronarita" (of course, only when Corona beer is used)!

Okay, What Ingredients do I Need to Make a Beerita?

  • 1 can limeade, frozen
  • 2 bottles corona, most importantly, a light beer of your choosing
  • 1 bottle tequila, you'll use the frozen limeade can for measuring purposes!
  • 1 box salt, i prefer kosher salt since it's more coarse

Simple Steps on How to Make Your First Beerita

  1. Make sure you have a large mixing pitcher - one that makes it easy to stir all the ingredients and can double as your serving vessel (make life easy on yourself)!
  2. Squeeze or scoop out the frozen limeade into the pitcher. The trick here is to let it sit out long enough so the frozen limeade releases from the can, but not too long as you'll want to use it when it's as cold as ice!
  3. Add your two Corona beers. Really, this can be any light beer, but make sure it's a light beer (more on this in a minute)!
  4. Take your empty limeade can, fill it with your favorite Tequila, and then add it to your mixing pitcher.
  5. Finally, give it a good stir, shake, rattle, and roll ... Voila you're done and your Beeritas are ready to be served and enjoyed. Pure bliss on a warm day - taking your relaxation to another level!

What's The Best Beer To Use Making Beeritas?

Without question, you need a light beer. Period! The beer brings built-in effervescence and fizz to this drink. That's its primary role in this cocktail, so you don't want a beer that's going to overpower your Beerita.

No matter how much I enjoy a refreshing Guinness every now and again (moderately and responsibly of course!), it's definitely not the right fit to make the perfect Beerita.

Using the wrong beer here will make a mess of this drink (like mixing lime sorbet in a chocolate ice cream sundae). Is there someone out there this might appeal to, I'm sure there is, but trust me it's not you so don't go there! If you do go there, I warned you! If you go there and like it, please let me know - I want to hear from you!

For a more traditional take on making the classic Beerita, Corona, Modelo, Dos Equis, Tecate, Pacifico ... really any light beer is what you're looking for. They're similar in flavor profile and compliment the limeade and tequila.

By all means, play with the ingredients (try using different beers and brands of tequila) and mixing quantities to come up with the Beerita that's perfect for you. Unlike baking where the finished product is not forgiving if you don't follow everything to the tee (from ingredient quantities, to what temperature they need to be at, to when they are mixed, how they are mixed, and for how long your creation needs to bake), you should lean into experimentation when making a Beerita!

More Tips On How To Make Beeritas

  1. Use a quarter of lime to accompany your Beeritas serving glass.
  2. Margarita rimming salt to lightly coat your Beeritas serving glass. Everything tastes better with salt (at least I think so)!
  3. Some Beerita recipes recommend filling the empty can of limeade (after you have poured the tequila) one more time with either 7-UP or Sprite to tone down the strength of your Beeritas. Not a bad idea after a round or two! Needless to say, be responsible here (don't ever lose sight of this)!
  4. Chips and salsa or a nice plate of Nachos go quite nicely with your Beeritas! Food for the soul and it tastes good too! If this isn't your thing, just use common sense here. You know these Beerita ingredients well (you can imagine what a Beerita tastes like if you've never had one) and you know what you like to eat when this is the type of cocktail you're whipping up! Whatever your go to meal is with your margarita, that will work perfectly here!
  5. Again, partaking in this experience is significantly enhanced on those warm and sunny days that can be shared with family, friends, and loved ones (age appropriate of course!). These type of days are tailor made for the best Beerita experience!
