The Bond Girls Have Become Movie Royalty

The Bond Girls

There are certain roles in the movies that bring with them a certain mystic, history and tradition. One of those roles is the Bond girl. The women who have played the sinister female counterparts to James Bond through the years have been beautiful, tough and smart. More importantly, they have earned a place in history as one of the chosen woman to play the role opposite of the clever British secret agent. The following is a short list of the best Bond girls.

When Honey Ryder Emerged From The Sea So Began A Movie Tradition

Honey Ryder

Honey Ryder, played by Ursula Andress, was the first Bond and one of the most memorable when she appeared in the 1962 Bond movie Dr. No. The scene most remembered is when Honey Ryder emerges from the sea wearing a skimpy white bikini singing Underneath the Mango Tree.

Andress is considered the gold standard for Bond Girls despite the fact that her accent was so deep in Dr. No that her voice was dubbed. Dr. No was not her first movie but catapolted her career and she later appeared in movies with Elvis Pressly and Frank Sinatra.

Pussy Galore

Pussy Galore, played by Honor Blackmun, is probably the most well known of the Bond girls for obvious reasons. The role appeared in Goldfinger, and Galore at first played the villian's pilot but eventually fell for the charms of 007 played by Sean Connery and helps Bond defeat the bad guy.

This role was made immortal by just the name and Sean Connery's Irish accent saying "Pussy" throughout the movie. The role has also been spoofed and mimiced numerous times since its release including in Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery with the role Alotta Fagina.

Tracy Draco

Tracy Draco, played by Diana Rigg, holds a special place in the Bond Girl tradition. She is the love of James Bond's life. In On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Bond marries Tracy Draco because he loves her (not as part of the mission like prior movies) to only to watch he die shortly after the wedding.

MayDay: Even The Toughest Bond Girls Fell To 007's Charms

MayDay

MayDay, played by Grace Jones, was a henchwoman for Max Zorin in A View To Kill. Jones played the role very intense and the most memorable scene is when Bond chases her up the Eiffel Tower to only have her escape by Skydiving.  Like many of the Bond girls, MayDay eventually turns against the villain and sacrifices herself to spoil his evil plan.

MayDay is Max Zorin's outrageous henchwoman that kills Bond's contact in Paris. Bond chases her up the Eiffel Tower only to see her dramatically escape by skydiving. Finally, after realizing Zorin has betrayed her, MayDay gives her life to stop the villain's plan.

Vesper Lynd

Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Green, appeared in Casino Royale and is Bond's first real love interest in a while and not a one night stand. However, after she dies of a suicide, Bond learns that she withheld secrets about their mission. The broken trust has a real effect on Bond who vows to never trust another woman.

Future Bond Girls

Playing a Bond Girl has catapulted careers and forever immortalized actresses. As time has gone on, the Bond Girl has become more than just eye candy but has evolved into intelligent and capable characters out to do good or evil, depending on the movie.

Rumors have it that the Olsen Twins may play the next Bond Girls (although this has been denied.) Hard to say where this movie tradition will go after that.
