Birthdays and Getting Older
68
I was about to be born on November 14th, and wow, what a journey being more than a half a century old can be! Its a time to look back and express gratitude and to ponder.
If I had a crystal ball that could have seen my future, it would have been a movie portraying twists and turns, that probably would have dismayed and thrilled me at the same time; life on Earth as we all know is in a dual reality, where we experience the good as well as the challenges, because we cannot know "hot" without experiencing "cold", or "love" without experiencing the tears of "rejection". Fortunately, we don't need to stay stuck in a negative polarity, we can transcend our experiences through the growth of our awareness.
If I had a magic formula that could make me 35 years old again, but with the condition that I would go back to my emotional level of being 35 again, I would pass, even if the vain side of my femininity, would love to retain the physical body of a 35 year old. I find that yes, we do age somewhat by the time we reach our 50's, but being in a place where one can react with wisdom and equanimity to life, is a wonderful place to be in. I have found that in order to reach a higher place within, we need life's wide range of experiences, as well as focusing on the understanding of Truth, the workings of the mind and emotions, or else we stay stuck in the drama of this world.
Do I value the life I have, on a planet that often seems to the human perception, filled with chaos and uncertainty? Yes. Life is a sacred gift, even if I don't necessarily want to come back to Earth (should I have a choice after my demise) so Creator, Mom and Dad, (wherever you are) thank you, for bringing me forth into this planet. I got to experience true love for the first time in my middle years with a partner who is my playmate.
Life is meant to be joyful, to be expressed without repressions from anyone, and this is what my life and that of my mate's looks like now; we are together, but we are literally flying free as the dove in the picture I am sharing here, because we do not suppress each other's spirit, we allow each other to be. The love, quiet harmony and potential for continuing growth which we both experience nowadays, has made my trip on the second half of my life worth it and balances the sorrows of yesterday.
He is my best "birthday" gift.

Oh, I forgot to add: Happy Birthday!
Hi Marie: Wish you a very happy birthday and a bright future filled with immense joy and prosperity. I'm really happy for you for having found a partner who makes you feel that life is worth living. Its never too late. If I get to live only a few years full of bliss before I die, I would depart as a contented soul. He surely is your best b'day gift. Cheers to you two!
Hi, Jack: Thanks for the birthday wishes, and comments. Will check your hub.
Anjali: You never know, you may find the years full of bliss when you least expect it; life is so full of surprises, that would be wonderful! Thanks for your wishes and stopping by! Hugs to you.
Hi Violet Sun,
A lovely and well articulated hub. Have great Birthday my friend. It's great to be reminded of the mysteries and surprises of life. Nice one, thanks!
Billie
I'm with you VioletSun on passing up the younger years if it means going back to the emotional level we once housed. Reaching the half century mark isn't half as scary as hitting 40. So much to learn in those years to the benefit of our soul. And I wouldn't trade that wisdom for a million dollars. Have a beautiful day. A very Happy Birthday to you! BTW I must mention how much I love your meditation cards, absolutely beautiful.
Happy happy, merry merry! Feliz cumpleaños, chica! Very true, what you have in the card up there -- a Chinese proverb says that bamboo is stronger than oak, because it yields in the wind, and its yielding will spare it from breaking :-) That's a lesson there, if there ever was one! Muchos besos and have a wonderful day!
Happy Birthday, Marie. Enjoyed your hub, so glad you found your soul mate.
Happy Birthay Mary, wishing you fullfilment of all your dreams, happiness one every step of your life-path.
You have given us so much joy and love here, you are gift for all of us.
Your Phil is really special man, you deserve that bliss.
Love, light, peace and hugs...
Be always happy.
Hi marie!
I wish you the happiest of birthdays. And keep looking forward, so much is uncertain about the future and therefore more exciting. And oh enjoy your um gift :D
Btw, have you noticed the "related hubs" (on the right side) to this hub? Nothing really, I just find it amusing is all :D
Happy Birthday Marie !!! I turned 49 not to long ago and I am still rockin .
Happy Birthday Marie!!! What a beautiful tribute to life you wrote and what a great gift to give yourself and the world on your most memorable day. I would not go back either, in fact even the physical body from my earlier years does not have the appeal I thought that it would. Each experience is a gift and I, like you have appreciated the gift of each and every moment, even some of the hardest ones. Bless you on your continued enjoyable bright journey through life! Sue
Wow, nice to get up to comments from my Hubpages family! :)
Billie: Thank you! So glad you are still around as I know you were planning to leave.
Dottie: I used to be angst ridden, LOL! Not anymore. Thanks for the mention on the meditation cards. I am working on my website where I will be selling them. I am slow when it comes to website creations, but I will finish soon. :)
Elena: Muchimas gracias, amiga! I like the Chinese proverb, and its so true- when we are not resistant, we don't bring in tension into our bodies, energy and life- we expand, grow.

Hi Violet, and happy, happy, happy Birthday! You know Violet, there are only certain people of a particular spiritual depth that I can be real friends with; I sense you might be one of them. Some points in your hub that reached me were your warm kindness and your sincerity, I look for those attributes first in a friend. Then, your unselfishness in the ability to appreciate your life mate at this stage in your life is so beautiful. He's a lucky man indeed! And your comments about aging could not be wiser. This is a hub I hope many a young people will see and learn from so I hope you will let me use it in my magazine at some point.
There was a time I feared growing up but now I've learned that maturing is a beautiful journey we ought to feel feel blessed to expereince. Thank you for that beautiful hub!Looking forward to more sharing from and with you. Sisteryly Love, Winsome
By the way, would you tell me about your name Violet Sun. Perhaps it's on your profile... I'm on my way there now...
Outspoken writer: I read your comments in Dohn's hub about the corporate world; been there done that, and so glad, I am no longer in that environment. :) Thank you so much for your kind comments, its appreciated it. And yes by all means you can use it in your magazine whenever you are ready.
Regarding my hubpages name "VioletSun", it just came together without thinking too much about it, but I see the color purple as a spiritual color, and sun as a giver of warmth and supporter of life. :)
Its very nice meeting you!
Belated birthday wishes VS...and happy times! :)
Thank you, Feline Prophet! :)
your hubs are down to the experiences of those years you have spent on this wonderful planet.I only met you lately but feel I have known you for many of those years. belated happy birthday and thank-you!
Dal: Your comments made me smile and feel warmth. I feel we are all connected, all part of nature. Thanks for reading and adding your comments!
I recently lost my job a week before my 51st birthday, so I am managing many difficult feelings around age, my contributions to the world I live in, and what my future holds. Your writing is very inspirational, and I appreciate your insights into life and living. Thanks for sharing your words.
Mike: I was in a situation like yours, found myself unemployed after working 28 years in the corporate world, and it was scary, very sary to not have a source of income coming in and no job prospects for me; but things fell in place, even in the midst of financial struggle; doors opened and now I am glad I am not working for a company.
I wrote a hub reinventing yourself after a job loss. Maybe it will help you.

Happy birthday! I never knew what hot was until I laid eyes on you. I am happier now than when I was young, more settled too, but now and again I like to play with kids and be irresponsible. What's with the ask capsule up there?
Ralwus: Thank you, you are very kind. :) We are like kids here at home, being silly and irresponsible at times is good for the soul. LOL! I noticed the ask a question capsule just a few hours ago, and it must a new hubpages feature because I didn't add as I would with the Amazon capsules.
Thanks for stopping by!
Well, I must stop by your place now and again. Not enough though. I noticed these new capsules everywhere but on mine. hmmm
Happy belated birthday! I shall hit 50 myself in the New Year. I hope to be as happy and fulfilled in my second half century as you appear to be. It's always good to read your wonderfully upbeat hubs.
Thanks, Amanda! I guess its all a state of mind and how we take care of ourselves; self care affects our emotions and sense of well being. Cool you celebrate your birthday in the New Year, that makes you a Capricorn. :)
What a wonderful idea, VioletSun and belated Happy Birthday!
My birthday is on the 26th, yes Thanksgiving Day, this year :) Hhhmm, Maybe I should do a hub. Thanks for sharing your wonderful and encouraging story!

That is beautiful. Now that I am in my 70's(nearly 74), the 50's seem so young. Did you see my new hub about my soon to be 54 year old son? http://hubpages.com/hub/Michael-Don
