Birthers are Racist: What happened to John McCain's birth certificate?
The US Senate passed a special resolution so McCain could run for president
Many Americans say that Barack Obama was not born in the United States and hence, cannot be President of this country. Just this week he had to reveal his birth certificate to stop the crazy birther movement. I have contended that the whole thing is based on racism and that if Obama were white he would be treated differently. It is amazing that I have to look no further than John McCain and Mitt Romney’s father (George) for my proof. In 2008 the United States Senate passed a non-binding resolution that “unanimously declared John McCain a natural-born citizen, eligible to be president of the United States.”
Why did they do this you say? Because Senator McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1932 on a military base where his grand-father was the commander and his father was the commander of submarine. “Curiously enough, there is no record of McCain's birth in the Panama Canal Zone Health Department's bound birth registers, which are publicly available at the National Archives in College Park.”
The articles goes on to say that a “key constitutional issue is whether the Canal Zone was part of the United States at the time of McCain's birth. In a memorandum, Tribe and Olson cited a 1986 Supreme Court ruling stating that the United States "exercised sovereignty" over the 10-mile-wide area between 1904 and 1979, when it was handed back to the Panamanians.” The conflict arose because US law states that people born in some U.S. territories, such as American Samoa, are not recognized as citizens of the United States.
The article also states that “According to a State Department manual, U.S. military installations abroad cannot be considered "part of the United States" and "A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth."”
Mitt Romney's father, George Romney, ran in 1968, even though he was born in Mexico. “George Wilcken Romney was thus born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua – one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico – on July 8, 1907, to American parents.” He ran for President in 1968 and lost the Republican nomination to Richard Nixon because he was gaffe prone.”
My question is what is the difference between Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain. Nothing. McCain is a trusted icon of American military history and politics. Obama is a black man whose father happened to be a Kenyan born student. The problem birthers have is that they cannot get rid of Obama’s pesky mother who was born in Kansas. They also now have a problem with the fact that he was born on American soil.
Their new
arguments are that he cannot be a natural citizen because his father was Kenyan
or that he was adopted by his Indonesian step-father and hence became and
Indonesian citizen. Stop already. It's racism, pure and simple.
Reasonable humans know that this is based simply on his race. The unreasonable ones we won’t worry about.
