Books To Read-Enjoy
Books I Read Growing Up !
Do you enjoy curling up with a good book for some escapism ?
I have just attended a writers festival in Kununurra where we met several authors & was introduced to some great books like KAL by Judy Nunn,
Is that thing diesel ? by Paul Carter & many more !
While growing up we used to read in bed at night as 7pm was our bedtime when we were young, however we were allowed to read so I made the most of it !
This is where I enjoyed stories such as " The magic Faraway Tree with saucepan man & the magic lands that would appear from nowhere !
The land of presents or the land of chocolate and so on !
Enid Blyton always kept me going with her Famous 5 books where George & her cousins explored Kirren Island .
The secret seven & their mysteries they solved !
The Boarding school stories that were set at Malory Towers always kept me riveted to the page especialy with their midnight feasts & pranks they would pull in their french class!
There were many more that I hope come to mind as I do this hub so hopefully you or someone you know can have the same enjoyment that I had reading them.
However there are a few special ones that I reccommend especially for young ones in their early teens.
These stories hopefully as they read them especialy the story of Helen Keller , will help young ones to appreciate their family & life they have .
Authors we met !
I Love to read a good book
The Silver Sword By Ian Serraillier
I have read this book a few times and told my girls to read it.
It is a story abouthow the Balicki family are torn apart by the Germans from their home in Warsaw, Poland, in 1940, and how they succeed in reuniting themselves in Switzerland at the end of the war.
Joseph Balicki, the father is taken to a bleak prison camp in south Poland. His wife was taken by the Germans to a labour camp, and the Nazis blew up his house. Joseph Balicki is told by neighbours that his three children have not been seen since and they are widely believed to be dead.
Fortunately, after escaping & returning home he meets Jan, a young orphaned boy who survives in the wastes on his wits alone. Joseph asks Jan to keep a look out for his three children, Ruth, Edek and Bronia, and gives Jan a silver paper-knife in the shape of a sword as a token of recognition, and with a message to the children to make their way to their grandparents' house in Switzerland.
It tells of their struggle to be reunited as a family.
I Am David
I Am David By Anne Holme
It is about a young boy who, with the help of a prison guard, escapes from a concentration camp in Eastern Europe in Bulgaria, and journeys to Denmark. Along the way he meets interesting people and has many adventures.
Anne Frank
Diary of Anne Frank
Anne Franks diary is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the War. The family was apprehended in 1945
It talks about her time in hiding & their capture when they were taken to a concentration camp.
.Anne Frank's diary is among the most enduring documents of the 20th century. She documented her life in hiding from 12 June 1942 to 1 August 1944.
Anne Frank decided that when the war was over she would publish a book based on her diary. Because she did not survive the war, it fell instead to her father to see her diary published.
Helen Keller
Helen Keller at the age of 19 months,(not quite 2 years old) was a happy, healthy child. She was already saying a few words.
Then she had a high fever which caused her to become deaf and blind
Helen was a very bright child. She became very frustrated because she couldn't talk. She became very angry and began to throw temper tantrums . The family knew they had to do something to help her.
They found a teacher named Anne Sullivan. Miss Sullivan herself had been blind, but had an operation and regained her sight. She understood what Helen was feeling.
She taught Helen the signs for the letters of the alphabet. Then she would "spell" the words in Helen's hand to communicate with her.

Enid Blyton & The Famous 5 !
The Famous Five are a group of children who have the sort of adventures most kids dream about, in a world where ginger beer flows and ham rolls are a staple diet. Julian, Dick and Anne get together with their cousin George in the first adventure, Five On A Treasure Island.
George is actually a girl who wants so desperately to be a boy she crops her hair and struts about doing boy things. She hates it when people call her by her correct name, Georgina. She has a dog called Timmy—oh yes, and an island. Most kids just have a dog, but George's parents own Kirrin Island and let her run around on it as if it were her play-thing. Her parents are known to Julian, Dick and Anne as Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny.
