Bread, Butter and Apple dessert
Easy dessert
A very good way to use up stale bread is by making my delicious bread, butter and apple pudding. You could also add some dried fruit if you like it.

Ingredients
You will need;
About eight slices of bread
1 large apple
2 eggs
half a pint of milk.
nutmeg or cinammon to taste
1 -2 tablespoons of sugar. I used one.
Butter or cooking margarine
Method
Peel and slice the apple and keep under water with a dash of lemon to stop discolouring.
Butter the bread and cut on diagonals.
Beat up 2 eggs with a little milk and add some of the sugar.
Butter a medium sized oven proof dish and line it with the bread slices, adding apple between the layers. Sprinkle a little sugar as well.
When all the bread and apple are used up, pour the remaining milk over it all.
Sprinkle the top with sugar.
Leave in the refrigerator for at least half an hour.
Pre-heat the oven to 180C gas mark 4.
Take the pudding out of the refrigerator and cover the top with buttered tin foil.
When up to temperature, place the pudding in a Bain Marie, which is a fancy name for a water bath. Just place you pudding bowl in a deep tray and half fill it with boiling water.
Then place the tray in the oven on the second shelf from the top and bake for thirty minutes.
Remove the tin foil and give it another ten to fifteen minutes uncovered.
Allow to cool a little before serving with custard or cream.
