Cavachon Hybrid Dogs
Physical Description
The Cavachon is a hybrid dog developed by crossing a purebred Bichon Frise with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Since there is a fair difference in size of the parent breeds the Cavachon also has a very wide range of possible sizes. Most will weigh between 15 and 25 pounds at maturity but through selecting parent dogs of the same general size and height more consistency and predictability it possible.
The Cavachon has a curly to wavy coat that is medium in length over the entire body. The coat colors can vary from solid white to apricot or peach and white, sable and white, black and white and even a lemony yellow color and white. There is also the possibility of a tri-color with white and black coloration on the body and tan colors on the legs, head and tail area. As a very low shedding dog the Cavachon may be hypoallergenic however not all of these canine hybrids will be.

The body tends to be strong and athletic, not fragile or delicate. The legs are sturdy and the chest is moderately deep and wide. The tail is carried in a jaunty fashion over the back and is constantly in motion as the dog is greeting people. The head is round in appearance and covered with longer strands of hair that tend to stick up from the forehead, giving a curious and friendly expression. They eyes are large, dark and round in shape and the ears are long and covered in longer curly hair, providing a frame for the face.
Temperament
The Cavachon is one of the hybrid breeds that is a true people dog and they simply need to be with humans to be happy. They are very gentle in nature and love to play or simply snuggle up beside their owner. As a pet that has bred to be a companion they are naturally very easy to train, highly sociable and very rarely if ever dog aggressive. The Cavachon will protect their space by barking but are not guard dogs and seem to treat everyone as a friend.
These dog types make excellent pets for families with children, but they also do very well with elderly owners and those that want a companion pet. The Cavachon will self-exercise inside but also loves to get out and romp and play outdoors.

Grooming And General Care
The Cavachon is a very high maintenance breed and needs daily grooming, bathing every two to three weeks and clipping every other month if their coat is being kept short. Without this routine the coat will mat and tangle and skin problems like hot spots can be a problem.
Like both parent breeds the Cavachon is prone to tearing and eye problems so it is important to clean the areas around the eyes at every grooming as well as watch for tearing that may indicate infections or irritations. The long, droopy ears also need to be routinely cleaned and monitored to avoid the possibility of ear infections.
The Cavachon may have some natural hunting instincts and may chase squirrels and cats, however they do very well with cats they are raised with. They also love to get outdoors, so a fenced yard or long walks are the best option for this hybrid dog.
