Christmas is the most celebrated and awaited festivities in the place where I grew up-in the Philippines. Ever since I was a kid, I would be excited to hear that Christmas is around the corner. The memories of Christmas caroling, decorating with my family (my favorite decorations are the Betlehem and Christmas tree) visiting my godparents are awesome acitivities for me. Lots of gifts and presents and candies never fail to make a child happy.

I married on a Christmas day. Even though it was a parental choice of marriage, I believe that at 21, I would make it work and be the best wife that I can be. He was my first boyfriend and first love. After seven years of being together, he finally left me on November 2000. And that was the saddest Christmas in my adult life. It was a sad moment for me because I don’t want to have to explain to my children what happened to the family they have.

Yes, it was a difficult marriage because it was a parental choice but then we have children and I came to care for him. It must have been love, who knows, because I was sad and I missed him during that Christmas season. As time goes by and many Christmases after finally I have moved on. Yes, there was still love felt, for who couldnt love the father of your children. I have long realized that things happen for reasons and letting go is the best way to go. During that Christmas season, this song became my favorite and couple of Christmases thereafter. Sometimes when I hear this song, memories will flash back and I remember the man but I don’t remember the feelings anymore.

Mind you, if I visit a karaoke bar during Christmas season and I sing this, it will give me a perfect score 100. I dont know why but the machine is just scared of my loud voice or the emotions put into it.
