Cleaning Rudraksha Beads

The Rudraksha Beads should be cleaned with utmost care. Wearing a Rudraksha while taking bath is said to be beneficial.

These Beads are strong and have a life of thousands of years if they are well taken care of. The Beads should be cleaned once in six months. For cleaning the Beads dip them in warm water overnight. Scrub them throughly using a plastic brush in the morning. After cleaning properly  wash the beads with normal water and then let them dry. Apply olive/sandelwood oil on the dried beads using a brush afterwhich the beads should be purified by offering incence, sandelwood paste and mantra's. Whenever the bead seem to be dry oil should be applied on it.

I did not know that olive oil is used on Rudraksha. I use ghee on Rudraksha and sandel wood oil. Some people even use Keo-Karpin Oil.

Thanks for the Comments Saurabh and Valliappan. I prefer to use sandel wood oil as it gives a nice smell to the beads.
