Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of a surface membrane called the conjunctiva.

This is a protective layer of the eye, which is thin and transparent,
and protects from foreign objects.

There are 3 main causes of conjutiveities.

This is when something like a foreign object, such as an eyelash, or a chemical reaction to a substance, like chlorine from a swimming pool.

TREATMENT:
Remove the foreign object, and then apply a regular gentle bathing to the eye.

This is the most common experienced amongst people.

This is caused just as the weather picks up, and summer starts.

Referred to as hay fever, when you have a reaction from the various seeds & pollens in the air.

TREATMENT:
Keep your clothes clean, and stay away from rolling around in the grass too much.
Make sure that you have a fan close by, and if it is actually getting bad, then speak to your doctor who can prescribe antihistamine eye drops.

If you haven't got the 2 above, then you have the worst type.

This is the actual inflammation virus.

It can be transmitted by skin contact, and is common amongst children who are in close proximity to each other.

The symptons of this include redness of the eye, a discharge which can be yellow in colour.
Also if your eyelids are sticking together when you awake in the morning.

TREATMENT:
Right away make an appointment with your doctor who will need to subscribe antibiotics.
