CoolIT USB Beverage Chiller
For people who like warm soda pop, this CoolIT USB Beverage Chiller is not for you. I imagine there has to be a small minority of you out there somewhere. However, if you are the type who are constantly on the your computer, and want to drink a cold soda, this might be up your alley.
However, the USB CoolIT doesn’t necessarily cool your drinks, but it does keep them cool. That means if you were hoping for a device that could take your lukewarm cans and turn them into something that would come straight after the icy cooler, think again.
That certainly was what I was hoping for, and if the USB CoolIT Beverage Chiller was supposed to do that, I would be disappointed with what I received. However, it is really only designed to keep a soda cool just after it is taken out of the refrigerator. In other words, it is an ice cube that does not melt.
I decided to give it a test in the morning. I took the USB CoolIT Beverage Chiller to work and plugged it into the first computer I could find. The CoolIT started to life right away, and there was a little fan in there that began the cooling process. There was no Freon involved, but the plate did its job and cooled down to 45 degrees in a hurry.
However, to really cool a can, you need more than just the little thing that it provides. There is one by Brando that wraps around the can, and I’m thinking that is what you would need to really cool things down.
As it was, I did a test on how good the CoolIT was at its job. I kept a can on the CoolIT for about three hours, and that was after an hour that I had taken it out of the refrigerator. The can was cool enough to drink, but I wish it had been a little cooler.
After that, I put another cool can on the CoolIT, and discovered it worked really well when I turned the can over and over every half hour or so. Of course, it totally didn’t chill the can, but rotating it helped circulate the cool soda so it was somewhat drinkable.
The CoolIT USB Beverage Chiller can be purchased at www.coolitsystems for about $29.99. It is worth it if you simply want to keep your soda cool, but do not expect too much from it. A cooler it is not.
