Gamergirl's Corn Flake Surprise
69Gamergirl's Corn Flake Surprise first came about through testing, trial and error, and an attempt on her part to recreate a dish made in seventh grade home ec. After many failures, and many sad boxes of corn flakes down the trash, the recipe has been decided and cemented in stone. (Not real stone, as that'd be hard to chew unless you're a Big Red Rock Eater.)
The Ingredients
As with many of Gamergirl's "signature" goodies, the precise measurement is a matter of taste, preference, and intestinal fortitude. Your mileage may vary.
- One box namebrand corn flakes
- Three cups white sugar
- One cup brown sugar
- Two sticks of butter, softened
- The SECRET ingredient
Other things you'll need:
- A cookie sheet
- A big mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Medium sized bowl for the SECRET ingredient
Don't worry, I'll tell you what the super top secret ingredient is here in just a little bit!

How to make Corn Flake Surprise
It's very simple. This IS a recipe of a sort that they teach to kids, so you can totally let your kids try this recipe out.
- Mix your four cups of sugar (add more if you like things sweeter) to the softened butter. Mix these up well, until you have a rolling ball of sugary butter goodness.
- Put the sugar mix into the microwave for 20 seconds, to liquify the butter just a touch and make your sugar lump easier to stir through. This will dissolve some of the sugar into the butter, too.
- Add six cups of corn flakes to this mixture, and stir well. Stir until the corn flakes are covered in your sugar and butter mix.
- Oil up your cookie sheet so the sugar doesn't bake to the surface.
- Using a big spoon, set spoonfuls of the mixture on the cookie sheet with a bit of space between lumps.
Cook this in the oven at 250 degrees for about 5 minutes - this will fuse the clusters together and get them nice and sticky.
Now it's time for the secret ingredient, are you ready?
PEANUT BUTTER! Take peanut butter and put about a cup and a half into a ziploc baggie. Put the baggie in a bowl (to hold it up) and microwave for 30 seconds to soften it up and make it easy to use as a drizzle. Push the peanut butter back from a corner on the bottom of the baggie, and cut the corner off.
Now you've got an easy piping bag! Just squeeze out your warm peanut butter on top of the corn flake clusters, be as messy or artsy as you want, then toss the ziploc bag.
Let the clusters cool, then sprinkle confectioner's sugar over the top and serve. They're a great snack for after school, and definitely cheap to make. :)
