Creating fashionable homemade jewelry is much easier than you think! Just open a magazine or go to the mall to see what some of the latest trends are in jewelry. Are celebrities wearing lots of heart pendants right now? Most likely you will see the heart pendant everywhere and through out the history of fashion it has been popular because it is timeless, especially around Valentine's Day. So why would you pay twenty-five dollars for some over priced heart babble necklace when you could make one at home for less than five dollars? It is possible to create fashionable homemade jewelry and save quite a bit of money in the process. If you are interested in learning how to create a fashionable heart pendant necklace than stayed tuned.

Here is a picture of what we will be making in this tutorial.

Step One: Attach The Pendant To The Beading Wire

Use the stretch magic stretchy cord to connect the heart pendant to the beading wire.
Use the stretch magic stretchy cord to connect the heart pendant to the beading wire.

The heart pendant had a hole through the middle, so I took about five inches of stretchy cord and folded it in half. I tied a knot at the fold and slipped the stretchy cord through the hole of the pendant. The bottom hole was stopped up with the knotted stretched cord, which allowed the excess stretchy cord to hang out of the top. I took the excess stretchy cord and used it attach the heart pendant to the beading wire. Any method can be used for attaching a pendant to beading wire, but I have found this method to be very effective. When finished I used the jewelry glue to add extra security to where the stretchy cord was attached to the beading wire, and to knot stopping up the hole in the heart pendant. I allowed the glue to dry overnight before I commenced working on this project.

Once I waited twenty four hours I proceeded to add one pink seed bead on each side of the pendant. Next I added an acrylic pearl bead. This pattern will continue up both sides of the beading wire.

Step Two: Continue The Pattern

Continue the pattern of alternating pink seed beads and acrylic pearls.

Handmade necklaces can have any style or look from conservative to eclectic. If you notice fashionable jewelry of today consists of a range of styles, so there are no hard and fast rules about which type of necklace will look the most stunning. For this project I decided to alternate the size of the acrylic pearl beads to make the design more interesting, but you can do anything you like with the pattern.

Step Three: Experiment With Different Shaped Beads

Experiment using different shapes of acrylic pearl beads.
Experiment using different shapes of acrylic pearl beads.

I have a large assortment of acrylic pearl beads, so I decided to use different shapes and sizes for this project. I used the shape and size of acrylic pearl bead on each side of the peading wire, which helps to give the necklace symetry. Teh wonderful thing about beading wire is that it can be shaped.

Final Clasp: Connect The Clasp To The Beading Wire

Use the jewelry plier to connect the clasp to both ends of the beading wire. I use a simple method of using the pliers to make a loop that is connected to the beading wire. Use any technique you desire for connecting the clasp to both ends of the beading wire. Once the clasp is connected this homemade and fashionable necklace is ready to wear to school or for play. This type of necklace might not be appropriate for all work environments, but right now I have been lucky to work in an environment where we are dressy, but not overly business dressy. We can wear any type of jewelry as long as our clothes look professional and not too casual. So I usually wear a fashionable necklace I have made to dress up a plain tshirt and paired with a skirt for work. On days off a fun necklace like this could be worn with a tshirt and capri pants or a sporty skirt. Jewelry can dress up any outfit and make it more fashionable and exciting, so experiment and play with your homemade accesories. Happy beading!

pdjscott,

I love how with making your own personalized jewelry it is very personalized and unique. Also, I like being able to tailor things to my liking. It is possible to even create fashionable jewelry, or even trendy jewelry by mimicking some of the celebrity looks of the moment. Mostly I just make what I like, but anyone making handmade jewelry can emulate any style. I am glad to see your post again after such a long time, so thank you for stopping by.

I am sure you can a beautiful necklace on your own jonaitis and it is so easy! Actually the necklaces I make myself are complimented more than the ones I bought. However, most of the jewelry I bought was not the real expensive type, so it would be a different story if you are wearing pearls or gold. I think inexpensive jewelry is just as beautifl and my goal is to share this knowledge with everyone online. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi C.S. Alexis,

I had fun with this activity because I used a few antique and new beads, which resulted in a beautiful necklace for cheap.
