Diets For Dummies And Nuts For Healthy Living
71"Go Ask Alice"
When I was a young girl growing up I remember asking my father a lot of questions about many different things. Oftentimes my father would answer only my questions that required a one or two word answer but MOST of the time my father would say “Go Ask Alice”. Alice was my mother. But I didn’t like to “Go Ask Alice” because she was always on the go, moving around cleaning or cooking or busy with my other 3 sisters. I loved talking to my father because I didn’t have to chase him around to ask him all my silly questions. As time went on I did grow tired of him saying “Go Ask Alice” and began talking more to my cat Fluffy and I also began to develop a love for books where I could go and find my own answers to satisfy my young curiosity.

Nuts for Healthy Living
Nuts have been an important food for humans for thousands of years and for many good reasons. Studies have shown that eating nuts everyday can help lower the risk of heart disease and also help lower bad "LDL" cholesterol.
Did you eat your nuts today?
There are lots of different nuts and seeds but here are six (6) of the healthiest nuts.
1. Walnuts - Known as the king of nuts. A great source of healthy omega-3 and incredibly healthy for the heart.
2. Almonds - Good for the colon. An animal study on the effects of almonds on colon cancer found that animals given whole almonds had fewer signs of colon cancer than animals given almond oil or no almonds. Researchers suspect the benefit may be due to almonds' high fiber content.
3. Cashews - Lower in fat than most nuts. 65% of this fat is unsaturated fatty acids and of this 90% is oleic acid, the heart-healthy fat found in olive oil.
4. Pecans - An excellent source of over 19 vitamins and minerals. A clinical research study evaluating the impact of pecans on serum cholesterol have found pecans can significantly help lower blood cholesterol when consumed as part of a heart-healthy diet.
5. Brazil nuts - a study at the University of Illinois found that the high amounts of selenium in Brazil nuts may help prevent breast cancer.
6. Macadamia Nuts - A study done at Hawaii University found that people who had added these nuts to their diets for just one month had total cholesterol levels of 191, compared to 201 for those eating the typical American diet. The largest change was found in the LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Great Hub, An addition to eating nuts, add a bit of fruit to it at the same time. You will feel fuller quicker and for longer. Your body needs starch and protien, or pratien and vegetables to burn the fats that stored within.
Enjoyed the information on nuts the most; I have developed a love for almonds, just ate some tonight with red grapes. Yum! Thumbs up!
Waoo, sound interesting, i try this one and see, thanks sister Dottie.
Thanks all for stopping by for a visit. I'm a nut eater too. Gotta love em. Rodney, I'll try adding some fruit to my nuts. VioletSun I love red grapes and with nuts, I'ma going for it. Sounds yummy. Thanks Trsmd. See ya around baby efeglo! And thx.
Good hub. So easy to say go ask someone else when there is a wealth of information available to anyone who will search for it. Not to mention the one searching becomes the "owner" of that truth. Most health issues are so simple and obvious but we have a tendency to complicate the simple. Great Hub. ~ eddie
yes nuts are so good for you and so are many seeds..sunflower, pumpkin raw of course. I like to make my own trail mix for snacks and my sweet tooth..Is a bit costly but has what I like in it and all organic is what I do. Thanks for your good information as all these Health hubs have been ...G-Ma :o) Hugs
I loved the movie video...nice way to end your hub....I think I'll play it again....so psychadelic!!!
Interesting, entertaining, practical, funny, and wise Hub on Healthy Living. Thanks for sharing it. Also feel free to see how I try to help others in new ways too. Sincerely: Gary Eby, author and therapist.
Thanks for the tips, I eat nuts all the time, it gives great energy along with workouts. I have bookmarked this article. Well done.
haha...I had to vote perfect. :)
Thanks all for dropping by and commenting. Greatly appreciated!
Great tips on how to lose weight, such as eating heart healthy nuts. I also like natural peanut butter without anything added. I am not familar with the Diet for Dummies series, but my sister loves the French for Dummies series, which is very goodl. The CD that came with the French for Dummies book is actually more informative than my French teacher was in high school, but that is another story. Thanks for the interesting hub.
Thanks SweetiePie for coming by and commenting. I too love peanut butter. I put it on lots of things. I ought to try the natural pb, it would be healthier for me.
That is too funny about the dummies cd and your French teacher in high school.
The first in the series of dummies books was "DOS for Dummies" in 1991. The series now has 125 million books in print and written in 39 different languages. ~Dottie~
Hi Dottie, I enjoyed your hub. I had to laugh out loud at your dad's "Go ask Alice." Well, that has turned up pretty well. (grin). And I just ADORE peanuts!!!! Let's eat some...munch munch munch
Hi Michelle, I'm glad you enjoyed the hub and that "Go Ask Alice" gave you a chuckle. We still tease my Dad about this and we've got all his grandchildren saying "Go Ask Alice" too! He'll never live it down. Poor guy!
Ahhh peanuts...together we munch munch munch~
