Dip Recipes Made with Sour Cream

Updated on July 21, 2010

You can make all kinds of dip recipes with sour cream. Dip made from sour cream can even be healthy. I have found that light sour cream works just as well as the full fat variety in most recipes. I don't care for fat free sour cream, though. If you're really watching fat and calories, try substituting plain fat free yogurt for up to 1/3 of the sour cream in the recipe. Even people who hate yogurt won't ever know you made the switch.

French Onion Dip

Most supermarkets sell prepared French Onion dip, but it is so easy to make your own. Just add one package of your favorite brand of French onion dip to a carton of sour cream, stir, and chill. Let the dip sit for a few hours before serving. There is nothing better on a ridged potato chip than French Onion dip.

Hot Taco Dip

Mix one can of refried beans (regular or fat free) with ½ carton of sour cream. Add in one package of Taco seasoning mix (or make your own) and 8 oz shredded cheddar cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until bubbly. Garnish with a dollop of sour cream, a little more shredded cheddar, and some chopped green onions. This is awesome with any type tortilla chips, and is especially good with hearty blue corn tortilla chips.

Salsa Sour Cream Dip

Simply mix equal parts of your favorite salsa and sour cream. You can easily vary the flavor based on the type of salsa you use. This simple and easy dip is terrific with tortilla chips or corn chips.

Sour Cream Vegetable Dip

Mix a carton of sour cream with 1 package dry Lipton or Knorr vegetable soup mix. Let dip sit in refrigerator for a few hours before serving. This dip is great on fresh veggies, potato chips, or crackers.

Spinach Dip

Mix 1 carton sour cream with a single serving container of plain fat free yogurt (or an equivalent quantity of mayonnaise if you are feeling decadent). Add one packaged of frozen chopped spinach that has been thawed and drained. Stir in a pinch of nutmeg, and chill. Serve with crackers, chips, or small squares of bread.

You can add one or more of the following optional ingredients to vary the flavor: one package ranch dressing mix, one can chopped water chestnuts (drained), one package dry vegetable soup mix, and/or 5 oz shredded cheddar cheese.

If you like warm spinach dip, you can make this identical recipe and bake it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Do you have a favorite sour cream dip recipe? If so, share it by posting in the comments section, or create your own hub. You can't have too many dip recipes!
