Elephant Family Observations
Elephants in London
During the summer of 2010 visitors to London will have been surprised to see that it was visited by a herd of some 250 art elephants spread out over the central part of the city. Each one is the work of an individual artist and each is conveying a message. Every one of them is different from the other in the way that people are individuals. Each elephant is unique too.
The elephants have added a new dimension for tourists visiting London. This was something over and above the trips to the Tower of London or Buckingham Palace. There were elephants everywhere. They were in small herds in the parks or individually in shops, at the side of the road, on balconies...in fact they could appear practically anywhere.
Elephant tours were the trip of the day for many, especially but not only for those with young families. Each elephant could be appreciated as a work of art. Something wonderful.

But Why?
But why the elephants in London? To draw the attention to the plight of elephants in the wild. There cannot be a single resident or visitor to London who has not thought at least once about elephants during the summer of 2010. Many will have made the effort to find out more and some may have actually checked out the Elephant Parade and Elephant Family websites. The elephants in London may well have been one of the most successful promotions of all time.
