Enjoy Mississippi's Annual Cruisin' the Coast Event

Updated on July 18, 2011

If you like the idea of seeing mile after mile of beautifully restored antique and classic cars cruising up and down Hwy 90 in front of the Gulf of Mexico, you have to attend Cruisin' the Coast.

Since the inaugural Cruisin' the Coast event was held in 1996, thousands of car enthusiasts have descend on south Mississippi for several days of fun and excitement every year during early October.

Whether you have a car that you'd like to show off or if you simply enjoy viewing classic and antique automobiles that have been lovingly restored, you're sure to have a great time at this event.

Cruisin' the Coast Activities

This unique event is much more than a standard car show. Vehicles are set up at a number of venues in several different towns that make up the region known as the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Locations where cars are set up include:

  • Downtown Ocean Springs
  • D'Iberville City Hall
  • Edgewater Mall (Biloxi)
  • Mississippi Coast Coliseum (Biloxi)
  • Old Town Bay St. Louis

In addition to visiting the different locations where cars are set up for display, many visitors simply park their cars and place chairs along the side of the road so they can watch participating vehicles cruise up and down the coast road (Highway 90) throughout the day and into the evening.

Throughout Cruisin' the Coast, many great entertainment activities take place throughout the region. Many of the region's casinos and other venues offer live entertainment, great food, car show awards, races, and more.

Activities vary each year. You can view a complete schedule for the current year on the Cruisin' the Coast website. There's also a classic car auction and swap meet at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum during the event.

Make Plans to Attend Early

Make your plans to attend Cruisin' the Coat early. Hotel rooms, condominiums, and campgrounds throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast region book up far in advance of this popular event.

If you don't make your reservations early, you may have to stay an hour or so away in Mobile, Alabama or Slidell, Louisiana. Don't let that deter you from taking a trip to the coast. Having an opportunity to see this event yourself is well worth a little bit of a commute.

Recognition for Cruisin' the Coast

It's not just locals who recognize Cruisin' the Coast as an event that is not to be missed. This event has received a number of the tourism industry's most prestigious awards. Examples include:

  • Governor's Excellence in Tourism Award for Mississippi's Festival/Event of the Year
  • Southeast Tourism Society's Shining Example Award for Best Festival/Event of the year
  • Included in the American Bus Association's "100 Events of the Year" List
  • Named as a Southern Travel Treasure by the AAA Southern Traveler magazine
