Long Nails Are Sexy

When I was a kid, ghetto nails were all the rage. Most of the girls in school dropped into their nail salon every week to have their tips changed and fills taken care of. I'll admit, some of the airbrushed styles looked pretty creative. And I never ceased to be amazed by anyone who could pencil in quiz answers while sporting 6 inch nails. It was all very glamorous.
Back when I was a teenager, anyway. Today, I have a different opinion - ghetto nails are whack. That's not to say airbrushed nails can't be attractive. They can be, provided they aren't longer than your forearm. I realize I can't convince all of you to retire your claws and trade them in for something more sophisticated. But that doesn't mean you can't update your look.
Easy does it on the glitter.
I confess, I love glitter. I would never wear it, personally, but I do appreciate it all the same. In the case of manicures, glitter can have a snazzy effect. It can add glamour to a simple style when done right. If done wrong, however, it can make you look like a kid who got into her grade-school arts and crafts box. If you're a grown woman and have some need to sport this look, aim for moderation.
One 3D doodad will do.
These 3D thingamajigs are quite popular with some folk. They do look pretty nifty, and I'm not discounting them. But, ladies, you don't need them on every finger. One per hand will suffice. One on every finger just makes you look silly.
Bigger isn't better.
Super long nails are creepy. There are no ifs, ands or buts, here. If you want long nails, that's fine, but keep them under control. Generally speaking, they don't really need to be longer than twice the length of your nailbed. And even that looks too long on some people.
They're nails, not daggers.
If you want elegant nails, file them straight across. Don't shape them into a point that resembles a spearhead - that's just not sexy. Don't file them into an oval, either, that just looks cheap.
Mind your complexion.
Black women tend to be able to get away with all kinds of colors on their nails. White women tend to think they can too, but really, they can't. Just because you like a certain shade of green, doesn't mean it's going to look good on you. No sense complaining about it, that's just how it is. If you want to be able to get away with fuchsia, you should visit your tanning salon first.
Personally, I've had short nails since I was a kid. It just made playing the piano easier, and it makes typing easier for me as well. I do love nails, though, and I've been known to have mine done on occasion. I prefer a simple French manicure when I do, and I keep the length long, but moderate.
If you're an avid nail buff, by all means, express yourself as you see fit. Just remember, your nails will be sending messages to anyone who sees them. You may want to consider whether or not that message is accurate.

Of course, everyone's taste is going to be different. But I generally agree with Isabella, here. A women's hands do for me what breasts do for many men. Not that I don't admire the female form, indeed, but a woman with an elegant and sexy manicure is stark naked as far as I'm concerned. It has been this way for me since I was at least the age of 4 (I know, wierdly precocious).
Anyway, with all that focus (indeed, fetish) about manicured nails (finger and toe!), I have never liked the clawed, and especially not the hook-clawed look. (Note: Some Web sites specialize in the clawed look for nail fetishists, so somebody likes them, apparently.) Almost any woman with basically full nails can look sexy (to me) in the long, but elegant, nails that Isabella has described. It used to be that rich creamy reds were my favorite color, and I did not like French tips at all when they first became popular in the U.S. Now, I still love the creamy reds, but I have also discovered an unexpected sexual power in French tips.
Another thought on long, but elegant, nails is that they are truly more practical in love play than the clawed styles. You can DO things with them that are just not possible with awkward lengths, and they really do accent the naturally feminine motion of a graceful hand, where longer, claw-like nails easily overwhelm the finger tips and hand, making them truly ungraceful, and even ugly, in my opinion.
Finally, I know this is really picky, but I also prefer long nails with a gentle, almost straight, curvature, rather than a hooked look. Clearly, women are built one way or the other and cannot really change the style of their natural nail, nor should they. There is always someone attracted to every possibility. However, even women with a hooking curvature can look very sexy to me if their nails are not TOO long. Isabella's "Simple and Elegant" example shows perfectly how this can work.

Hey, about the 'creative but still claws' pic. I agree, but most people wouldnt get those to wear ona daily basis, even the crazy ones... HOWEVER on the note of the number of 3d acents...well honestly to me they are the whole nail. If i could find a place in houston that would do like they do in japan i would spend ALL my money there getting nails, and i mean even down to the 'nail rings' that dangle pretty thingamajigs from the dip of the nail.
I hapen to ADORE the fasions seen in Harajuku. Im crazy that way...and to be honest if i had nails that were two inches long and covered in jewels and large 3d sakura and lilly flowers i would indeed send an acruate message...but then thats just me.

As with most things - moderation! Long nails are simply not practical.
I must agree simple and elegant are classy and sexy ! Any free edge length over a half inch is garish and tacky. I can really relate to Daniel R. as we're cut from the same cloth.

I have to say, most of the nails on here horrify me. I mean- the length is... It's just... Ack.
Maybe it's just me- I mean, clearly there's plenty of people who think differently. But nails which extend more than half a centimetre over the fingertip are claw-ish to me. I don't find it attractive, and I wouldn't want those hands on my body!
I'd have to disagree with the "black nails are not sexy" comment as well- they're very stricking, so if the nails are broken or the style doesn't match the clothing style, it's very obvious. But I'd rather see a lass with neat black nails matching her neat black clothing, than almost any other unnatural colour- I hate bright colours on nails!
Again, very much just MY thoughts and feelings; I don't expect everyone to share them, but I was interested enough to read the hub and then comment. So it's not intended as an insult! ;)

I am gonna have to go with long natural fingernails and toenails are very sexy. The french mani pic and those black nails are sexy. They are a nice length. a little longer would be sexier, but those will suffice. as for long toenails go, omg, omg, so sexy. just no french pedi's unless your toenails are long enough for it to look good. I like it when each toenail is an inch or two past the end of the toe. that is sexy. very sexy. so ladies, get long nails for the guys! thanks!
