I should not be allowed to play with matches

Look what I have done

An innocent playful repartee

Ignited into something more

Sparks felt and shrugged off

Such a raging inferno unforeseen

A subtle warming my intent 

Now your fiery passion frightens 

And yet intrigues 

I can not look away 

I can not step in

Lest I be wholly consumed 

And lose all sense

When the fire dims as they all do

Is the debt of the lost forest mine to pay

And when the fuel is finally spent 

Will cold exhausted ash remain

Or will forever  

Warm embers smile
