Save A Life - Learn CPR

Imagine for a moment- You are walking out in the bush with your family & all of a sudden a snake appears out of no where and bites one of your children or partner on the leg - What would you know what to do and save them as they are falling to the ground getting sicker by the minute ?

Or a parent suddenly clutches their chest as they collapse of a heart attack in front of you or

Someone gets a cut from a broken glass as they wade into dirty water miles from anywhere ...

All of the above do happen & it takes a quick thinking calm person to step in fast and save a life.

Do you know any First Aid or CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation ) ?

Would you know what to do in a medical emergency so you could save a life ?

St John Ambulance believes that everyone should learn at least the basic first aid techniques. You may need to use them at any time at home, at school or work or even while you're travelling. Knowing what to do can make the difference to a person's recovery and you could even save their life.

Wouldn't it be good every child was taught first aid at school school so they grew up knowing how to deal with the different emergencies that come along at unexpected times like this

One Friday afternoon we faced a medical emergency I hadn't faced before when I walked into my work colleagues house to finalize plans for our seminar that evening .

As we walked in I noticed his partners 17 yr old son laying face floor on the ground.

At first we thought he was just asleep however within a minute he was having an epileptic fit.

We had a guide sheet to follow and he seemed OK but called a ambulance to be on the safe side.

I had never seen anyone having an epileptic fit before so it was quite scary.

We canceled the seminar as they had to spend a lot of time at the hospital .

I really do believe that there should be first aid taught at school so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.

Before we were married my husband suffered a major heart attack & fortunately an ambulance wasn't too far away & he remained conscious.

I have done a senior first aid course but want to do an update as you never know when or where it will be needed for family or friends,

Last weekend I attended + passed the Senior First Aid with Annie on the weekend .

It was an enjoyable 2 days as Annie was friendly & explained everything really well .

My husband did the same course Monday & Tuesday and after comparing notes I am really pleased I had Annie as a trainer .

We all passed the CPR on Saturday morning & was informed straight away so instead of wondering about it like the next class at least we could relax & concentrate on learning everything else.

000 is Australia's emergency number . We have always wondered why they cannot be the same worldwide .

•  St  John Ambulance have developed a new range of first aid courses designed to meet the needs of home or leisure activitities. Just three hours is all it takes to learn how to save a life.

  St John Ambulance welcomes young people from age 12 onto all our community first aid courses. If you are under 16 you must  attend with a responsible adult  member of the family or guardian (two young people per adult).

• performing CPR
• demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator
• Taking care of the unconscious person
• special techniques for children and infants
• CPR in special circumstances

• bleeding and wound care
• infection control
• reporting procedures

If you enjoy First Aid and are interested in working in this field you might like to consider using your skills or even if you are looking at doing volunteer work where you will get training.

Ambulance drivers are needed especially here in Morawa where they need volunteers as sometimes in an emergency they cannot get a driver here so they need to get drivers from other towns .

We are now in Kununurra where Neville is a volunteer Ambulance officer & enjoying it .

He had put his name down in Morawa but wasn't contacted till we were about to leave town.
