Free Government Phones
  • Free government phones will never expire, but some participants will be randomly selected on an annual basis to provide proof of eligibility. An online form is available to provide proof of eligibility. The online proof of eligibility form requires name, date of birth, phone number, state, and two check boxes. The first check box confirms that the phone recipient is a head of household and is not claimed as a dependent on some else's tax return. The second check box confirms that the free government phone recipient is indeed a free government phone recipient and no one else at the same address is a free government phone recipient.
  • Participants who become ineligible are required by the FCC to voluntarily remove themselves from the program. They are eligible to continue using the free government phone and purchase air time from wireless phone providers.
  • An online application is available for potential free government phone recipients.

I'm astounded. Also at the level that the US has set as poverty threshold. I assume that it's 2/3 of the figures quoted.

Nicomp, it sounds like the government has become an enabler. But free phones could benefit the many unemployed. Good Hub!

Not available in Arizona, dang, I was getting ready to sign up. If they are giving stuff away, get it while you can, LOL.

I could call my self and leave long messages to burn the minutes.

I'd rather get a block of that good government cheese.

Good post, I think there was a time when that would have chapped my hide, but being a drop out has it's advantages.
