Gamewright Games
Gamewright Games makes some of the coolest card games I have ever played. My whole family loves them and we play them all of the time. The games are all very unique, yet also very easy to play.
One of my families favorite past times is playing games. We can't always all play together but, some variation of us plays a few games practically every day. My son Jakob is always asking to play a game. A lot of our games can take a while to play or setup. So the Gamewright Games are perfect when we need a short and fun game to play. They are also very portable since they don't take up much room. They are great to bring on trips or to a relatives house.
The company was started in 1994 by four parents who wanted to make great games for their kids. They now have over 50 different games and many of them have won numerous awards. The games are all very well priced and are very high quality. It shows that they really care about all of their games. For the most part they are mostly card games and can be played in about 10-20 minutes. But, your kids will probably want to keep playing them like mine do.
We learned about Gamewright only a few years ago and were just so impressed with the games. So since then we bought numerous others. My six year old son's favorite game is Hisss. It is a color matching game in which you need to build snakes. If you complete a snake you take all of the cards that make up the snake. Then of course the one with the most cards is the winner. My other son is nine and he really likes Slamwich. It is kind of similar to Slap Jack. You take turns putting down cards then when the cards are placed in the order to make a sandwich you slam your hand down on the cards and yell, "Slamwich!" The first person gets the cards. I am hoping to get Loot for our next game. Everyone likes pirates and it seems really cool trying to take each others treasure.

Do you have a favorite family card game? Or of course other comments are always welcome.
Hi Jim, these games sound great and good to know you back the company with quality. It's nice to hear you have so much fun playing games with your boys and brings me back to memories of playing games with my son and daughter when they were young.
BTW did you know that your link to the Gamewrite Games needs a new link? It's not a broken link but check it you'll see what I mean!
Thanks for the suggestions! It always nice to have some NON-electronic games to give their eyes and hands a rest. lol And in case the electricity goes out. You'd swear it was the end of the world. ;-)
Thanks for the comments,
Brian I agree Monopoly starts out great and then only continues to be great if you are the one winning. It can be a long game and many parents won't want to start playing if they know they won't have time to finish it. You should look into some German games like the Settlers of Catan. germany seems to make great games that stay fun the whole way through.
Dottie, I love playing games. It is nice I don't need to completely grow up. You've gotta have fun sometimes. Thanks about the link. I fixed it and it worked last night. But, I didn't copy and paste some stuff. Maybe that messed it up.
Your welcome Mamacoots, I hope you like the games. It is nice to get a break from all of the electronics once in a while.
What a great selection for a game to play with kids! Thanks Jim. =)
Thanks..Jim for sharing this..I just checked out their website..they do have great stuff! Thanks!:)

Hi Jim I am a lover of games too, all types may I say. These games sound fantastic, and it is so cool hearing you play with your family,I bet you are a great Dad, you look so young to be one :)
Thanks for visiting Blondepoet. You have got to try some of the games they are great. I get the young thing all of the time. It seems a little better now but, not much. Last week we went on a Duck Tour in Boston and my wife told the woman at the counter it was her sons birthday and the woman wished me a happy birthday as we were walking outside to the Duck boat. It doesn't even matter if I don't shave. Oh, and I am 29. I figure when I am 50 I will still look half my age.
This is really a good idea of having fun and playing with family. Thanks for sharing, Jim.

I like the idea of short and fun, I have memories of playing Monopoly for hours, which is fun to begin with but in the end everybody just wants someone to win so you can finally stop. Or am I just being a grump.
