Getting Targeted Twitter Followers
There are many ways to get targeted Twitter followers, ones that are interested in your niche. Some ways take longer than others, but in the end, it is better to have Twitter followers that will care about what you are sharing, versus just bulking up your numbers with people who will never even bother to read your tweets.
Twitter Directories
There are many Twitter directories that allow Twitter users to add themselves with their subjects of interest. These are the top three to start with - to find more, simply Google Twitter Directory.
WeFollow - WeFollow allows users to add themselves in five categories. You can search for users by category, and add yourself to the directory by allowing WeFollow to create a tweet saying that you have added yourself to the WeFollow directory under specific categories, including your location if applicable.
Twellow - Twellow allows users to add themselves to ten categories in their directory. You can browser users in each category, and add yourself to the directory by logging in using your Twitter credentials. Twellow will pull in your basic Twitter profile information, and allow you to create a more in-depth profile with an extended bio section and links to your other social networks, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, Mixx, StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, FriendFeed and more.
Just Tweet It - Just Tweet It is a Twitter directory powered by WordPress. It allows you to browse users in different categories, and add yourself to any categories by clicking on the category and filling out a comment form, which automatically posts your Twitter url and details onto the page.
Taming the Twitter Following to Followers Ratio
One thing to keep in mind with any mass following of Twitter users is that Twitter keeps an eye out for people with an uneven following to followers ratio, because of all of the automated services and spam bots out there.
Let's say you go through and add 500 followers one day. In about a week, if these people have not followed you back, you should probably eliminate them from your list. Twitter Karma can analyze your followers, and show you which ones are following or not following you, when they last updated, and so on. Depending on how many users you are following, it could take a bit to get all of the information. But once it is through, you can go down the screen, check all of the people not following you (or that haven't updated in a very long time) and bulk un-follow them.
