How to worship God
God is your parent. You don't need middlemen when it comes to talking to your parents, do you? Speak to Him directly, and He'll answer, the directness of His answer being proportional to the strength of your faith. If you can't pray at home, go to churches, temples, mosques or any place of worship.
If you are worried about God taking offense at your methods of worship, don't be. There is no wrong way or right way. If your child draws a horrible looking picture of you, but has done it lovingly, will you take offense? Point to ponder.

I was born a Hindu but went to a convent's school for my primary education. That made me a confused child. At home, they told me Shiva and Vishnu were gods. At school, they told me Jesus was the Son of God. I spent many hours trying to reconcile the two concepts. But my interest made me study the Bible and Hindu mythology.
As I grew older, I was interested in Greek, Roman and Norse mythologies. So many gods, whom do I believe in? I became quite an atheist. Was that for many years till I discovered that there was a God above all religions. God made man in His own image, but religious man painted God in his own image.
I believe in simplicity and I chose the most simple option: a God who is my parent, who is everywhere, who knows everything and is all things. That belief is very comforting.
I don't need to know more.
When I realised that God had taken good care of me even when I was an atheist, I was filled with gratitude. That thought led me to state that gratitude is the best prayer. I still say so. Gratitude is bigger than rituals, houses of worship or falling at one's knees. This powerful truth finds form in this very simple prayer, which I read in a child's Moral Science book, which tells me that I don't need to look any further:
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat,
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you, God, for everything.

Kenny! Not for one moment do I believe that you became an atheist even for a little while. Maybe on the surface your brain said so but deep down in the heart , and where it really counts, you had belief. Disillusionment with my life, (divorce ++) and just being Mom and sole breadwinner had me ignore God for quite a few years. Until I noticed there was something missing in my day to day life. I'm ashamed to admit I still don't get to church as often as I should but (there is that but again) I do my worshiping daily. When I step outside and see the most beautiful sky or listen to the enormeous maple trees rusling leafs or when my 'College Baby' calls to tell me she had a great day. I thank God for all I have and am receiving. I try to give back some, in his name by volunteering etc. But most of all I have to believe that there is a better life for all, considering all the suffering and pain that's is an everyday occurance...

I appreciate your sharing how you have come to know God in your life. I too find Him everywhere, for ALL things testify of Him. I believe it is important to understand that there is a God, who cares about each one of us. This is because He is our Creator and anyone who creates, has a purpose in mind for that creation and also in creating a 'thing', we find that in it, we- ourselves are literally manifest in that work.
Man is God's greatest creation, therefore, His love for each one of us, individually, is beyond our comprehension to fully understand. And in our lives, be the ups or the downs, He is there to comfort, guide and teach us along the way, IF we will turn to Him. I believe that it is His work, to bring about our Joy in this life and in the next to come.
Therefore, my faith in Him assures me, that He is the only true way, to take whatever life brings us, and have confidence that it is for our good. We are here to learn to love as He loves us.
What greater mentor to look too, than He who is the embodiment of Love, as we see Him revealed... in everything and everyone around us?

Thank you, Peter, that is very encouraging. I think I had it right when I was a child and just talked to Him frequently. Then I complicated things, like you said, and religion added to make my search more difficult. Returning to a spiritual innocence, was for me, a return, you might say, to Eden!
That four line poem at the end, we used to say before eating dinner every night when I was a kid. A print-out of it is still taped to my parents' napkin holder!

Oh I just can not believe it Kenny..That is the very prayer I have taught my children and each one I have cared for over the years,, We even said it at the Christmas dinner table along with another of our favorites...
And to add to all this..my friend...I was a NUN for 2 years in a convent in California.. We do seem to have a connection through OUR LORD, but we all do in one way or the other :O) there are many stories to come...I can just feel it. God Bless You my dear. G-Ma :O) :O)
