Ground Zero in NY and the Muslims

Updated on August 17, 2010

Maybe it is because I am on the West Coast, far removed from the NYC panic attack. Maybe it is because I knew no one who died in the Sept 11th attack in 2001, but, New Yorkers need to chill out about the recent anti-Islamic and Muslim verbal warfare barraging the news regarding their desire to build a mosque nearby the "sacred" massacre site of Twin Towers.

When I first heard his, I, too, was outraged by the gall of Muslims wanting to do this, after their "pearl harbor" attack in 2001. I thought they were building it for spite and directly adjacent to the area. It did anger me. However, since that initial report, logic prevailed. First, it wasn't Islam or Muslims that did the horrific 9\11 event, it was al-Qaeda. Some 20 of them, that has a grudge toward America and the Western World, they happen to be extreme Muslims in Islam. To think all Muslims share the same POV is simply Nazi-like, as Hitler did with the Jews and the German people more or less followed him. Secondly, the mosque is a good two effing blocks from this site, it is thus, well removed from it and nothing can prevent it- it is real estate.

Granted, like Obama stated, it may not be the smart thing to do. It may provoke anti-Muslim and Islamic sentiment. It may provide Nazi-like reactions by American extremists who are simply using all Muslims as a scapegoat for their hate. It is more likely to have the opposite effect than what the Muslims want-that is, instead of good will and healing, the wound and hate simple becomes a virus to New Yorkers. But, hey, that decision is up to the owners of the property who want to build the mosque there. They may regret it.

New Yorkers seem to have their "panties in a wad" over this. As if, the 9\11 site is sacred, hallowed ground to be worshiped because many Americans died there from a terrorist shock attack. They seem to think it is their right to defend this area, to make it a shrine-like, while the rest of America scratch and shake their heads over the news media who spin this for their own reasons.

It is time to move on New York. America is still the place most of the world wants to emulate, visit, and live in. The Muslims can legally build their mosque two blocks away. You can be outraged and rant like spoiled kids all you want, but it still will be there, and if you take matters into your own hands, you might end in jail, not the Muslims.

Until proven otherwise, more Muslims and Islam are good people, different, yes, but not terrorists. If you cannot handle them, avoid them.
