Honey and Your Sex Life

Updated on October 10, 2009

Who can resist that golden, sweet syrup? Honey is delicious and beneficial for a numerous amount of applications. It's used in everything from medicines to baking to bath and body ingredients. But how many people know it's one of the best foods for your sexual health?

Honey is as old as written history, dating back to 2100 B.C. It was mentioned in Sumerian and Babylonian cuneiform writings, the Hittite code, and the sacred writings of India and Egypt. The use of honey as an aphrodisiac is mentioned in both the books, Kama Sutra and The Perfumed Garden.

Honey was also mentioned frequently in the Bible. The Bible referred to honey as a wholesome food, a helpful medicine, an ingredient of delicious drinks, an appropriate gift and a valued possession.

Many medicines in Egyptian times were based on honey including cures for sterility and impotence. Medieval seducers plied their partners with Mead, a fermented drink made from honey. Lovers on their "Honeymoon" drank mead and it was thought to "sweeten" the marriage. It was a tradition for the bride and groom to drink Honey Mead for one month after their marriage to set a sweet mindset for their years together.

Honey is a sugar, and provides sustained high energy. Nutritionists often suggest a couple tablespoons of honey and two 400 I.U.s of Vitamin E to provide about four hours of high energy. Don't do this if you have been drinking though or you'll get opposite results. The vitamin E increases oxygen in your system and is considered by many to be an aphrodisiac. Honey is rich in B-vitamins, enzymes and amino acids.

Honey promotes virility and reproductive health and stimulates the growth and regeneration of body tissues. It also promotes the formation of red blood cells. Eating honey regularly increases the production, quality, and motility of sperm cells. In fact honey rejuvenates the reproductive organs of both male and female sexes.
