How To Increase Amazon Affiliate Sales On Hubpages
80For hubpages writers, earning amazon affiliate income seems to be the toughest of the big 3 available, Adsense, the Ebay affiliate program, Amazon. The conversion is quite high for those that click through some claim up to 10%, in my own experience around 7%. So the trick to really earning money on Amazon has more to do with getting the right products.
Here are some tips that have dramatically increased the amazon sales through my own hubs from 5 to 10 items a month to 30+ items each month.
1. Write Content That Sparks Buying Decisions
Your content is your biggest lead to making an affiliate sale through Amazon.
Indirect marketing is powerful! By indirect, I am speaking of content that is written about a niche subject and Amazon products are advertised that relates to the niche.
If you write about scrapbooking tips and your audience is beginners to the hobby, look for kits to advertise that provide the tools necessary to get started. If your scrapbooking tips are for experts, showcase items that are new and for experienced scrapbookers
An article about locating fish schools for great fishing will reach fishing enthusiasts. Those really into the sport will already have depth fish finder and while showcasing them will reach those who don't, what many fishing hobbiest might not have is portable GPS locater product. It doesn't help find the fish but it will help find the location the schools seem to hang out near once the fisherman has located the prime location for future knowledge.
Think outside of the obvious. Keep in mind that your target audience may already have the basics, so don't forget to offer them the extras.
Another powerful way to draw in sales is to write about a type of product, but not one specifically. Writing product reviews can prove profitable on a short term basis, but new technology and products are always coming out. This is why writing about a general item is better for long term marketing strategies.
For example. Instead of writing about a specific air purifier, write about air purifiers in general. The uses, the benefits. Provide alternatives and how to make them work better. Health benefits and who they are great for. Then, hand pick air purifiers that are highly rated and sought out.

Hand Pick Items To Promote
Hand picking items is the biggest part of using the Amazon capsule. Random keywords rarely provide targeted items and if they do, there is always the possibility of changes with new products being added and others being removed from the Amazon website. Now what items to pick?
When you are shopping for something online, what draws you in? What makes the sale for you? The following are some components that lead to promote a buying mentality.
- Detailed Product Description
- Deals! A current price dramatically discounted from the displayed regular price
- Find a price that make people spend. To low doesn't justify shipping, to high and you may have lost part of your target audiences wallet. I found the best luck with items $15 to $40 in most of my hubs.
- User feedback
- Low shipping costs
- Is it directly from Amazon or 3rd party? Some buyers may only want items directly from Amazon. Limit the 3rd party items and use them only when what is offered is better the what comes directly from Amazon.
If the product is not something you would buy, then discard it and look for something you would. Keep in mind all the aspects of what helps you make a buying choice and pass that on in your choices. You have only a very short time to promote a product, make sure its the best choices.
Descriptions!!!!
When adding individual products, there is a button on the right hand side on the ASIN box to enter in descriptions. Sometimes the product title isn't enough, sometimes a little fact about the product can lead to a click through.
If you choose to use them, make them have as much jam packed information in as short of description as possible. Include information that would lead you to choose one product over another.
Amazon Capsule Placement
When you create a hub, determine if your focus is Adsense, Ebay, or Amazon. Which it will be will be determined on what can offer the best success. Most of the time it may be Adsense, but in cases where the adsense CTR is low, the Adsense advertisements don't match the hub, or the Adsense earnings are minimal per click this is when focusing on Ebay or Amazon can be powerful.
Remember ABOVE THE FOLD. What the viewer sees the moment they get to your webpage is likely to get the most attention. If you are focusing a hub on promoting Amazon, placing an amazon capsule to the right of the first text capsule will be your best bet.
Where you put your Amazon Capsule may have an impact on your sales. In my own experience, integrating the amazon capsules to the right of text with titles has proven to be the most successful.
Some may have success placing Amazon at the top of the article. If your text content is only to get placement in SERPs but you want your reader to go directly to the affiliate products you are promoting this method may prove successful.
Play around with different methods. When you find a capsule layout that is proving effective. Use it often.
I've also found that capsules placed at the very bottom is the least successful method. Possibly this is because you only have so much time with your article viewers. Once they have read the bulk of what they want to get from an article, them move on to the next thing. How many times to you look at whats for sale after you've read the article?
How Many Items Per Capsule?
I have had the best luck with placing 3 to 4 items in a capsule. Too much and its stimulation overload. The viewer looks right over the products. Placing similar items in capsules and breaking up the rest is also helpful.
For example. In a hub about gardening, instead of having everything in one long capsule. Break it up. Do a capsule for 2 to 3 highly rated gardening books, a capsule for 3 or 4 gardening tools, and a capsule with a few different seed packages.

Informative and since my results have so far been dismal I shall try some of your techniques on my next hubs. Thanks
Great information,
Thank you for sharing this information is gives me some ideas for my own hubs.
Great hub sun. Keep us posted as you discover what works even further.
wow, this was just the information I was looking for. Great hub Sun, keep up the good work!
This is one area I never understood how it works with Adsense, Ebay, and others.
Hey Sun, have you ever tried placing an Amazon capsule right at the top of your hubs, with nothing else there?
I know that would probably be pretty spammy but...
Also wondering if you're able to track which hub your Amazon sales are coming from?
Yep, will james, tried it, but not long enough to really form any stats on using it. I think that for something like Ebay, it can work because if you get the user to click, you have their 30 day cookie traffic. For amazon though, I think it's better to mix the capsule in your hub.
Thanks for the tips I will try the place ments now
I have made money with adsense on other sites. I am just beginning to take Hub seriously.
I plan to put your tips to use right away.
Fantastic hub sunstreeks! I have been experimenting with amazon-focused hubs lately (on this hub SN and on my other one...) but have had little success. I've bookmarked your hub and will definitely be coming back to it later. You've got a lot of wisdom here.
Wow...what a really great hub! So, down to the nitty grrrrittty, it takes some hand picking enthusiasm...Thanks!
I've been wondering how well Amazon works on Hubs, now with this great info, I'm going out and seeing for myself! Thanks for posting this Hub, it clears up a lot of questions I had.
These are some good ideas. I make more on Amazon than I do Adsense, and much of what you are describing is similar to what I do.
Just do it.
Nice info. :)
Great advice, sunstreeks. I'm making more money off Amazon than Google, but, of course would like to make more. This has given me some great ideas. Thanks for writing and sharing it.
Thanks for this much needed (and soon to be well-heeded) advice. I'll be sure to share this one with others who have ?'s. It's always a pleasure to read your hubs!
Hey, thanks for the hub, esp. about where to place capsules. If you could, could you tell me how to make the Adsense products work? Both the Ebay and Amazon capsules were a piece of cake in comparison to Adsense. Thanks in advance.
I haven't sold one product via Amazon yet, but I will try applying some of these tips. Thank you.
Placement is everything and like you mentioned how the content is written will determine if it motivates a call to action from the reader,
well written, thanks for the useful tips.
I have been guilty of putting my amazon capsule at the end of the article, makes more sense to include it in the content instead.
I had my first Amazon sale a couple of days ago (made a whopping $.66!)and am wondering if I'll ever really see this work for me .... you give me hope. I will try and implement your ideas and cross my fingers that it will improve. Thanks for writing this hub.

Infomative Hub. I will give these suggestions a try as I have never earned anything on Amazon in 16 months of trying. Thank you
