Do you love the taste of a baked apple dessert with lots of cinnamon! Yummy!  Since in the in the autumn apples are definitely in season, and this a great way to process the abundant fruit off your trees. What if you do not really like exact recipes, but want a baked apple treat! Not to fear my friend because to be honest I hate exact recipes too, and I love to experiment! Now that the weather is getting cooler, well not much cooler here in the Southern California valleys, but in other parts of the country a crock pot is a wonderful tool for those cool Fall and Winter nights. Who wants to spend hours monitoring a home cooked meal or dessert when you can simply chop up the ingredients and throw these in a crock pot? For the "loose" recipe below I used:

  • A large amount of cut up organic apples
  • Water to cover the apples in the crock pot.
  • Half a cup of sugar.
  • A very liberal sprinkling of cinnamon.

Some people like exact measurements with the use of cinnamon, but I just pour it in because I love it! I am both liberal politically and with my cinnamon use, but if you are not a cinnamon lover like me you could start with a teaspoon or two. Take a look at the pictures below to see how I created this fun baked apple type of dessert. The great part about using the crock pot means I could leave it alone for a few hours and not worry about it, whereas with real baked apples you have to monitor the oven frequently.

Step One: Cut Up The Apples

Use a chopping board to cut up the organic homegrown apples.

I have a large supply of organic apples, so I decided to cut these up and make a lovely baked apple dessert. Whereas I love the taste of baked apples, I definitely do not want to keep my eye on apples in an oven. This "loose" recipe is lovely because it tastes like baked apples without all the hassle. First I wash off the apples and cut these up into small pieces.

Step Two: Put The Apples In The Crock Pot

Put the sliced apples inside the crock pot to begin stewing.

Yes this apple dessert is more liked stewed apples, the the aroma and taste will be similar to that of the baked variety. Once all the apples are chopped up dump these in the crock pot and cover with a generous amount of water. Next, add about half a cup of sugar, and you can always add more or less depending on your taste. The final step is to add the cinnamon stir together all of the ingredients with a spoon. I left the crock pot on a low setting for a few hours, and when it was done I had a simple and delicious apple dessert. Crock pots are good for meals, and also good for desserts. Today I made a chilli recipe by simply putting frozen beans, veggies, salsa, and leftover pasta sauce in the pot. Crock pots are great for people who do not want to mess with complicated meals and desserts.

Good deal. I use a crockpot a lot, and haven't come across many recipes for crockpot desserts. Thanks!

Now I have to go make myself something with apples, sugar and cinnamon! I don't have a crock pot, but I know I would love apples cooked that way. Curious though, I'ved never cooked apples with the peels on. I always peel them. Interesting.

Jim,

I am really enjoying my crock pot lately, which is a lot of fun.

Paradise,

I created this apple dessert on a whim with a crock pot because I did not feel like making baked apples. I really enjoyed it, but I imagine using a crock pot to make a dessert is not very common.

alekhouse,

For years my mom has been making two different types of apple sauce. One variety is without the peals, and another type is a chunky apple sauce with the peals on. My mom would make those apples in a pressure cooker, so one day I decided I could try this in a crock pot. It tastes like baked apples without the hassle, so it was fun for me to try. I might not do it every day, but I did enjoy it!

Wendy,

Thanks, it did taste good!

Great Recipe, I love using my crock pot, (it was a wedding gift so it may be older than you) might try a little nutmeg in there to it helps accent the cinnamon! Great Job!

Wow - so simple and looks so yummy. Gives me one more reason to use my crock pot. Just in time for the holidays too. Would be great served w/vanilla ice cream in some cute serving dishes. I'm so hungry now :-) Kudos!

Pretty photos and an easy recipe - brilliant! Neither of us has a crockpot, but reckon this would work in the oven at a very low temperature.

Hmrjmr1,

I have put nutmeg in apple pie many times, so I am surprised I forgot it this time. Yes, cinnamon and nutmeg are very complimentary to each other.

Chloe,

Yes this would be great with vanilla ice cream!

2patricias,

You could definitely make these type of apples with an oven. Actually I wanted the taste of baked apples without having to bake the fruit, which is why I used the crock pot.
