How To Make Money From Hubpages

Updated on July 2, 2012

What is Hubpages

I am writing this article on Hubpages, which is a free site where you can publish any article about any subject that you like and make some extra money for your efforts. there are six ways at the moment that you can make money writing on hubpages and the site owners are working on other ways to make money from your articles in the future.

The most frequent question asked by new Authors to Hubpages is, How do I make money from my Hubs (articles)?

The easy answer would be to say write good quality original hubs, do not copy work from other sources, and remember to join the affiliates or you will not make a single cent.

Joining the affiliates is a great start in your money making efforts but it is how you use the affiliates in your hubs that will make the difference between making a few cents in revenue and making some real money.

Hubpages do not pay any Authors Direct

There is only one way to be paid directly from hubpages and that is by taking part in the Capstone Hubs programme which has a strict set of rules if you plan to participate in it.

The Money that you earn from hubpages comes from 6 different sources

Capstone hubs, Google Adsense, Ebay, Amazon, Kontera, URL Trackers.

All work in different ways and making money from each takes a little know how and common sense.

The 60/40 Split

Before telling you about the various ways of earning from your articles you should note that you will receive 60% of the money generated from the advertisements on your articles and Hubpages gets the other 40%.

This does not mean though that for every Dollar that you make you get 60 Cents and Hubpages gets 40 Cents.

The way it works is simple you have an advertising ID for each affiliate and Hubpages have their Affiliate ID too, for every 100 readers of your hub your Advertising ID will be on the ads 60 times and The Hubpages ID will be on the ads 40 times if an ad is clicked when your ID is on the page you will receive the money for it and if Hubpages ID is on the page when an ad is clicked they will get the money.

URL trackers give you a chance to earn an extra 10% of ad money but that will be explained more in the next segment.

Capstone Hubs Program

Capstone Hubs And URL Trackers

Capstone Hubs

Are the only way that hubpages will pay you directly but there is a very strict criteria to qualify for payment clicking the link it will take you to the rules of Capstone Hubs and tell you how to qualify for payment you can receive an extra payment depending on the amount of visitors that you receive in your Capstone series. you will also receive your normal advertising affiliate payments from your hubs in the Capstone Hubs Program.

URL Trackers

URL Trackers give you the chance to earn 10% of any new authors revenue that sign up through a special link that you can add to your blog or website if you have one you can add links to face book chatrooms that you use frequently or anywhere on the Internet where you are a member.

The new Author whom signs up to hubpages will still earn the 60% of their advertising revenue, the 10% comes out of the Hubpages share of readers.

If a new author signs using your tracker

60% of the ads will contain their ID.

30% of the ads will contain Hubpages ID.

10% of the ads will contain your ID.

The links on this page contain one of my URL Trackers which are very easy to set up and if you sign up for hubpages you will find a link to URL trackers on your account page.

URL Trackers are considered the best chance to make a lot of money through Hubpages, because the amount of people that sign up using your tracker can be unlimited.

.

Google Adsense

One of Hubpages affiliate advertisers is Google Adsense, probably the best known and most popularly used advertiser on the Internet.

Google adsense works on the pay per click method which means that if someone clicks on one of the Google advertisment links on your article then you receive a commission for it the pay out can vary from one cent a click to a few dollars for a click depending on the subject matter and key words used in your article.

Google Adsense is for most Hubpages Authors the best way to make money from advertising on the site, the more page views that your article receives the more chance that one of those viewers will click on the ads on that page.

Please remember that it can take up to 72 hours for Google to put ads relevant to your topic on your articles.

Making the Most of Adsense

There are millions of people out there who claim to be experts on Google Adsense offering advice and opinions on how to get more money from the clicks on your ads, what works best for me though is to go straight to the source, Google Adsense gives a lot of useful advice and tips on how best to use their services they even provide a service on which are the best keywords to use for the article that you write.

Remember that Google Adsense will give the best advice simply because they want to make money too.

Amazon Affiliate

Ebay Affiliates

Advertising With Ebay and Amazon

Ebay and Amazon both work in a similar way they have products to sell and if someone buys one of those products from the advertising on your articles you will receive a commission.

The difference though with Amazon and Ebay ads on your articles is that you get to choose where they are shown on the page, and you can get to choose which products to advertise too if you so prefer.

Making the Most of your Ebay and Amazon Capsules

The best way by far to make money from Ebay and Amazon is to target a product that they both sell and write an article about that product, once you have written your article you should visit both Ebay and Amazon and choose products that compliment your article to add to the relevant capsule.

You can choose to put a keyword in your capsules but that only gives you a general list of ads related to your article.

If you write an article on Singer sewing machines, people are visiting your page because they have an interest in Singer sewing machines targeting your Ebay and Amazon ads by placing Singer sewing machines on them, rather than general ads showing other brands of sewing machines, which can damage the earning capabilities of your article.

Kontera Logo

Kontera Affiliate

Kontera like Google is a pay per click Advertiser, you get paid a commisssion when someone clicks on on of the ads in your Article, they payout though is a good deal less that Google but it is still a good source to make a few extra dollars every month.

Kontera ads appear on your articles on certain keywords of Kontera's choosing double underlined and when you move your mouse arrow over the words a relevant advertisment is displayed if the reader clicks on that ad, then you will receive a small commission.

Making the Most of Kontera

Targeting your article for maximum Kontera revenue is difficult because of the fact that they select which keywords from your articles are relevant to their advertisers, Kontera would do better if they shared some of that information with their affiliates.

Like Google Adsense the more readers your articles receive, the more clicks you will recieve.

With all of my Affiliates combined last month my earnings from Hubpages were over $350.00 using all of the methods above.
