How To Save Money Without Noticing

Updated on December 10, 2012

How To Do It!

How do you save money without noticing that you are doing it? It is actually easier than what you think. You can save money in simple ways that can add up to an extra $100 a month which can put $1,000 in your savings account. I tried these tips years ago, simply because 1) I really did not think my loose change would add up fast. It does add up quickly, and it can become fun saving your loose change. Now I get a kick out of going to the bank, and dumping my change into the coin counter to see what the total will be.

Really do it! Every time you break a dollar for whatever reason put your coins in a jar. If you prefer to put all your change in the jar every Friday instead of daily it works just as well. For me I love to put my change in every couple of days. It's the change you get from taking your clothes to the cleaners, buying groceries, or even that bottle of water you purchased. When you get your change put in your pocket, and save it for your jar. How to save money on simple ideas can be a fun, and easy process as you get help saving money.

Now Really Do It

Saving change really does work. It is an easy way to save money without thinking about it. Depending on your habits you will easily have saved $20 - $30 in a months time when you first start. I love the quarters because that add up fast. Of course you can not specifically ask the cashier, "may I have all quarters?" But then again why not? When I save dollars bills, I totally will ask the cashier, "Could I please have singles?" They are more than happy, the only time they will not honor the request is if they are short on singles. When I save money using dollar bills, I have another jar for dollar bills only, and I collect dollars. Saving my dollar bills for me is an easy way to save money, I love to collect my dollars just to see how many I will have by the end of the year.

Don't spend them, but save them up. You will be happy making your deposit into your saving account at the bank. It is easy, and it can become a fun way to save money. When you really get in the habit of saving money in these simple steps you will learn to adjust your spending to saving.

Brown Bag It!

An easy tip for saving money is to brown bag at least twice a week. Some people may already have this tip as part of their daily saving money habits. For me, when I was working in Corporate America it was out to lunch every single day. Do you know how much money a person can spend by going out to lunch everyday. That money can easily add up to $25 a week. If you spend $5 bucks on lunch every day x 5 working days that equals $25. I learned from one of my co-workers years ago the way she saved money very easily without noticing, was to bring her lunch. She did religiously everday, whatever her family had for dinner the night before, she would brown bag it, or shall I say tupper ware it, and bring it for lunch.

Frequent Movie Goers

Save Money On Gas Drive Slower

I have heard this for years that driving slower, will save you money at the gas pump. Its true! My prime example of this; I once dated a guy who loved to drive, from time to time I would let him drive my car, and I would just relax and ride. The only difference was sometimes he drove like a bat out of west hell! Then I started noticing when I would drive I would look at the gas hand, and my tank would be nearly on empty mind you this was a few days before I had just filled up. I started to get a little ticked and told him to keep his foot off the gas pedal because he was burning up too much gas.

We would fuss over it because he did not believe the way he drove was burning up more gas than when I drove. I knew it was true because I was the one going to the gas station more often during the times he drove. I told him either you slow down, or fill the tank back up. Better yet it would be nice if you did both, I was tired of spending extra money on gas.

Movie Night At Home

Going to the movies can be pretty darn expensive these days. Opt for having movie night at home, it can be a fun time. I learned about movie night when I learned in a community shelter for about 6 months. They use to have movie night, we actually had alot of fun. We would have chips, someone from the kitchen would make nachoes, and movie night was on.

You can do the same with friends invite your friends over for movie night instead of going out for movies.   But if movie night at home puts to big of a dent in your social or entertainment activities you can still save by using coupons at the movie.  This was news to me until I came across the video for frequent movie goers.

The Mighty Coupons!

Coupons, coupons, and more coupons they really do work! Saving by stocking up on items when they are on sale can make a big difference on your wallet. Cut those coupons out of the sales paper on Sunday night. If you only buy items when you run out of something you are spending more money. I am the stock up queen. For example honey is expensive, but I love honey in my coffee every morning, and I love honey on my peanut butter toast. But do you think I pay regular price for honey NO WAY!! I pay $3.99 instead of the regular price of $7.49 for a 32 oz. size bottle. This cuts my price just about in half. Think about if you shopped this way all the time. You could save money without really thinking about it because it will become your regular routine.

I can tell you from experience coupons can save you money big time.  I know, I know you think it's a pain to cut out coupons.  It is all in getting into the habit of doing so, trust me it won't hurt so bad once you have really gotten the swing of it.  You will love yourself, and be proud of yourself when you discover how much money you really do save by using coupons.
