Skin should be a prized asset. To maintain flawless skin - healthy diet, regular exercise, sufficient sleep and a comprehensive beauty regimen are essential.

Skin changes due to hormonal fluctuations, aging, diet and lifestyle. The following tips should be taken into action to achieve healthy, young-looking skin.

Healthy Diet

This is essential for healthy skin. For collagen production, Vit. C is required. For skin condition, Vit. E is vital. For maintaining healthy skin tissue, Vit. A is needed and for skin repair - Vit. B. Sources of these different kinds of vitamins can be found in fruits and vegetables. You can also take vitamin supplements.

Sufficient Sleep

Skin's cellular repair activity is at its optimum during this resting phase. So, get enough sleep around 6-8 hours daily.

Exercise

This benefits the skin because it boosts circulation and encourages blood flow. Getting regular exercise will nourish and cleanse your skin from within.

Beauty Regimen

Finding beauty products can often be costly, hit- and- miss affair. To make skincare simple, you must first identify your skin type and then address its needs. The following are types of skin, their characteristics and their simple solutions:

Normal Skin has an even tone, no visible blemishes or pores, smooth texture, and no flaky areas or greasy patches. To maintain its natural balance, a basic beauty regime is needed. If you're tempted to neglect your skin, a great-looking complexion won't last longer.

Sensitive Skin is dry, prone to allergy reactions and delicate. Products that cause irritations such as alcohol (used on the skin), some detergents, cosmetics and temperature changes make the skin red and blotchy and surface veins are visible.

Choose products that do not contain potential allergens such as fragrance and PABA sunscreens.

Oily Skin is characterized by an over-production of sebum (skin's natural hydrator) which results in spots and blemishes. There is an advantage to having this type of skin - it ages and at a slower rate than other skin types.

Avoid harsh products that can strip away skin of oil and encourage flakiness. Harsh products cause the reaction of the oil glands to work overtime to compensate the loss of natural oils. This is known as "reactive seborrhea." There are also products that leave your skin taut and dehydrated and they should also be avoided, because the upper layers of the skin would shrink -  oil flow to the pores is restricted which lead to blockages and breakouts.

To cleanse oily skin, use oil-based products as they dissolve sebum effectively. After cleansing, use oil-free moisturizers to maintain a shine-free complexion.

Dry Skin has low level of sebum and is prone to sensitivity. This is exacerbated by environmental factors such as exposure to the sun, wind, extreme temperature and air conditioning, which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel taut.

Increase intake of essential fatty acids (omega 3's) which are found in oily fish like herring, salmon, sardines, black cod, mackerel and bluefish. Other sources of omega 3's are turmeric, brightly-colored vegetables and fruits. Use moisture-rich formulas, cream- or oil-based cleansers. Avoid water-soluble variants as exposing dry skin to water can aggravate the condition.

My skin is oily. But sometimes it becomes dry also if too hot or too cold. Thanks for reminding me to sleep more. It has become difficult with 4 children and a baby that oftentimes don't sleep simultaneously.
