How to Establish Your Own Website
66Plan and Idea
Before you do anything, think of a unique idea to create your site on. Make sure the subject of your site must be something of your interest. For example if you love dogs, create a site on dogs, BUT an extremely large number of sites on dogs already exist so you will have to give something unique to make sure your site is a success. If you can't give something unique and new, try to create a site on some other topic of your interest. Plan all features of your site wisely. By wisely I mean that the features you think are better than the rest should have more prominence on your site.
Buy Domain and Hosing
Domain is the main URL of your website for example www.hubpages.com. Hosting is like the space on a globally accessible computer server where you can place the files of your website e.g your main page, databases, pictures, anything and everything. Take my advice and get your hosting from bluehost.com, you will get the domain for free with the hosting. I have suggested Blue Host because it lets you host as much as 1000 individual websites on just one hosting. When you will eventually create your website, you will want to create more websites for different purposes e.g. getting backlinks to your website, generating more revenue by increasing the number of websites etc and I personally feel quite easy managing a single hosting control panel rather than remembering passwords for the control panels of each of my website. They also give much more benefits for just $6.65/month like $50 credits for Google Adwords for the first time.
Warning: Never check for availability of a domain that you want to buy, unless you are ready to buy it. If you check for the availability and come back later to buy it then there are chances that you will see it is gone.
Create Website
Yes, this is the third step, not the second. Most newbies will want to create a website before they buy a domain and hosting, but I recommend doing the other way around. Reasons for this are quite obvious, if you have got the domain name before making a website, it will be easy for you to create links and you will not have to edit them later on. If you already have bought hosting, it will be easy for you to test your website pages while they are in the process of being created. There are other benefits of buying domain and hosting before creating a website. In case you haven't learned any web designing tools and can't create a website, that is no more a problem, you can get free website templates from a number of sites on the web. WordPress is a great tool and lets you create your own blog with a number of helpful services like comments, followers etc. Visit wordpress.org to learn more.
Unlimited FTP
Upload the Website
Upload your website to the wwwroot or public_html folder of your hosting using an FTP. You will see an FTP option in your hosting control panel. Click it, browse to the rite folder which is public_html in case of Blue Host. In case of Blue Host there are many options to upload files, the option I use and will recommend to upload files is 'Unlimited FTP' as marked by red arrow in the picture(Click the picture to enlarge). Make sure your main page or home page is named index.(extension).
If this looks complex, it is not. All you have to do is transfer your website files in the rite folder and it is damn easy. If you feel any difficulty doing this, contact your web host support. Blue Host provides a 24 hours live chat support, so they save you the time you will waste in emailing support and waiting for the reply.
Testing
Don't forget to test your site in all the common browsers. You don't want some visitors who use Opera as their browser to think this site is not made by a professional.
Market it
Once created, your website will need marketing. People should know it exist especially the people who might be interested in that particular topic. So, spread the word about it. You can spread the word by emailing your contacts about it and telling them to forward it to their contacts. Think of other innovative methods to market it. You can also submit it to some free high-quality link directories.
Optimize your site for search engines
The traffic that comes to your site through search engines is called targeted traffic. Now why do we call it targeted traffic? Its known as targeted traffic because this traffic will buy the products you are selling on your site and will click ads, in other words, this traffic has a high conversion rate. So, you should try and get as much search engine traffic as possible. For that reason you should optimize your site for search engines. Here are a few tips to get more search engine traffic.
Get Backlinks
Backlinks eventually have become the most essential part of SEO. Just as they give you more Search Engine traffic by improving your ranking in search engine result pages, they also give you good traffic if your link is placed on related websites. Take my word, backlinks are as important as creating the content of your website as there is no point in creating something that no one will see. Here are a few easy ways to get free backlinks.

Emievil, I am so glad I could help. Thanx again.
Excellent advice. I like bluehost and am a big fan of the one-click Wordpress install. Since getting the hang of Wordpress, I don't even think about building a site without it.
I have tried developing sites without WordPress but they didn't perform that well with the search engines because of the lack of on-site SEO. Now I don't build sites without the WordPress.
