How to Fold the 1991-94 Mercury Capri Convertible Top
Most convertible cars have their top folded in a certain way depending on the type of material and whether the rear window is glass or plastic.
The 91-94 Mercury Capri convertible top is one single piece, including the rear plastic window. Because of its design, raising and lowering this top frequently will over time create tears or rips at the folding parts, most common in the rear. It will also likely cause a premature wear on the rear window, which is why I suggest that if you lower the top, keep it lowered for considerable time, namely in the summer months.
Most owners of the car actually do not fold the top correctly. Most will loosen the front first, then detach the rear section from the car and then lift it back over so the glass lies on top of the top and then continue to lower it into the compartment. This is how I was shown. The manual clearly shows and tell you NOT to do it this way to avoid damage to the rear window area.
The correct way is to lower the top into the compartment with the rear window not folded but to have it tucked towards the back of the rear seat first and then lower it carefully making sure the rear bow (this fastens to the car when it is up) is flat in the compartment.
