How to Stop My Dog From Eating Poop
Many of us probably have a pet of some sort. I know that for me I have dogs, cats, and recently added fish to the mix as well. I haven't let me husband convince me yet though about a bird, but he is working on it. Now though my dog recently developed the nasty habit of sniffing out other animals poop and eating it. Mainly it is rabbit poop that he eats, but still it is poop none the less and it is very disgusting seeing him eat this poop. Here are a couple of tips that I have found that worked out well in getting my dog to reduce how much poop he finds and when he does find it he walks away from it!
The first thing that I have found is that I am able to walk him on his leash. Now if I am walking him on his leash I am able to control where he goes in the yard and am able to keep him away from the poop in the yard. I am sure if you watch your yard closely you will probably notice that for whatever reason it never seems to fail that your pet will be attracted to the same area of your yard each time. Then you will be able to look around in that area for rabbits or other animals that would leave behind poop during the time that your dog is inside your home.
Now if he is still trying to eat poop while you are walking him on his leash then you will want to take and have him go through a training program. Once he is in the dog training program you will be able to teach him the leave it command. Now the leave it command might not be one that you would even think about, but it does work wonders because when you say leave it he will walk away from the item without even considering going back to it because he will realize that you are the boss and he is not.
While stopping your dog from eating poop is a challenge that you might encounter it is definitely a challenge that you will want to conquer because of how disgusting it is. I know that the two methods that I have mentioned above work wonders in getting my dog to stop eating poop and now I do not even have to keep him on his leash because he has no interest in hunting down the poop of other animals as a snack.
